Shari and Evan met on September 5, 2014, after being matched on Coffee Meets Bagel and coordinating a first date at The Helmand in Mount Vernon. Shari distinctly recalls her first impression as being pleased that Evan hadn't lied about his height, while Evan was pleasantly surprised to meet someone who decided to make a reservation in a case when he had not already done so.

The dinner seemed to have made a good impression on both Shari and Evan since they saw each other several times over the next few weeks at many Baltimore institutions such as Alewife, Mick O'Shea's, and the University of Maryland Emergency Room.

When Shari and Evan went mini-golfing a few weeks later and managed to end the course with the same score (a tie!), they knew it was something special.

Shari and Evan are proud of their egalitarian relationship, and deciding to get engaged was no different. Shari joined Evan on ring shopping excursions, and Shari was there when they found an engagement ring they both liked. However, when Shari asked how long it would take to make, Evan consistently lied and told her it would be months later than planned.

It was therefore a surprise to Shari when, after a nice cozy winter Saturday of reading and relaxing, Evan mentioned that he had gotten Shari a present to celebrate six months together in their new apartment: the engagement ring! Shari overcame her initial confusion about the ring arriving six weeks early and happily accepted Evan's official marriage proposal.
