How do I get to Steamboat Springs?
We strongly encourage all guests joining us from out of state (that’s almost all of you) to fly directly into to Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden, CO about 25 minutes from the town of Steamboat. Our travel info page lists airlines with direct flights into Yampa Valley by their origin cities. From Hayden, airport shuttles to Steamboat are available for pre-booking and we will provide more information on group rates for shuttles as our wedding date nears. If you choose to fly into Denver, there are still airport shuttle options available to pre book 2-3 days in advance that will take you on the 3.5 hour drive thrice across the continental divide to Steamboat. Due to the potential for snowy mountain weather, we do not recommend renting a car to drive yourself from either airport to Steamboat.
Do I need a car while in Steamboat?
No, you do not. During the peak winter season, the city of Steamboat offers ample free bus service throughout and between the mountain village and downtown Steamboat Springs.
Please see the Steamboat Springs Transit Page for more information.

Please note that the last bus on Friday Night from Downtown to the Gondola Square and Condos is at 11:34 from 7th & Lincoln (11:37 from 3rd & Lincoln)
How do I purchase a lift ticket to ski (or snowboard) on your wedding weekend?
Steamboat Springs is an IKON Pass mountain, so if you are considering purchasing a multi-mountain season pass for the 2024-2025 season, we gently suggest the IKON Pass, which will go on sale for the 2024-2025 season on March 14th, 2024. Prices on all IKON Pass products will increase during the summer and fall, and they will ultimately stop selling in December, so purchasing sooner is better and more cost-effective.
The IKON Pass offers multiple products and pricing tiers and the most expensive "full" IKON Pass may not be the best option for you. Luckily our wedding weekend does not fall on any IKON blackout dates, so whichever IKON tier pass you may decide to purchase will be valid for our wedding weekend.
Typically, the IKON and IKON Base Pass are the most economical for avid skiers who will have at least 5-6 ski days in a season and expect to ski at multiple mountains in a season. If you do not fit this description, the IKON pass offers 2, 3, & 4 day "session" passes, or you may purchase a single day lift ticket from Steamboat Springs Resort. They also offer a Steamboat Springs Only season pass (pricing has yet to be announced), which may be the best option for anyone expecting to ski 5 days or more at Steamboat (and no other IKON Pass affiliated mountains). Again, because ski resorts need to pre-book revenue, the sooner you purchase, the less money you will spend.
If you are unfamiliar with the IKON Pass and it's affiliated mountains, we encourage you to review the pass offerings for yourself, as you may find that an IKON Pass or IKON Base Pass also includes season-long access to ski slopes already near your home- an opportunity to maximize the value of your purchase and to practice your turns all season. As Warren Miller says, "Any Snow, Any Mountain".
Where should I rent skis, snowboards, or other gear?
First, if you already own skis, it may not be any cheaper to rent skis than to fly with them, but this is a matter of preference and personal choice.
If you wish to rent skis, there are many options available to you!
- Ski Butlers will deliver rental skis, boots, and poles to your accommodations.
- Fleischer Sports is located on the mountain, near the base of the gondola, and offers performance and demo rentals starting at $56/day for adults and $24/day for kids when booked in advance. They carry a great selection of higher-end skis you can demo, including Kastle, Atomic, Blizzard, and Volkl. They also offer ski storage if you are staying in town and $70-90 full tunes & repairs with a beer while you wait.
- Christy Sports may be the most instantly recognizable ski rental shop, as they have locations in nearly every western ski town I've ever visited, and 2 in The Boat. Adult rental packages start at $44/day when booked in advance for 3 days over a weekend.
What should I wear for the wedding events?
For our welcome drinks and bites event, we will be at the wonderful Jace Romick Gallery in downtown Steamboat. We request cocktail/dressy attire, and we welcome anything with a western flair to embrace Steamboat. Please keep in mind that streets and sidewalks may be snowy and icy, so we recommend that ladies consider wearing boots or block heels with a tread.
For our wedding and reception, we request cocktail or semi-formal attire. We do not recommend wearing heels to the wedding due to the fact that our venue is also a functional ranch, and the ceremony and portions of the evening will be held outside where walkways may be icy. If you choose to wear heels, we recommend that they have a solid, block heel and rubber treads.
How should I dress to go skiing or snowboarding?
Our best advice for proper ski attire is to dress in layers and to avoid cotton, which holds moisture and can make you feel colder when you sweat. An ideal formula to stay comfortable while skiing/snowboarding is to wear synthetic or wool base layers, followed by a fleece or down midlayer, followed by waterproof shell layers. Gloves, buffs, helmets (usually available with rental skis) & sun protection (sun screen, sun glasses or goggles) are all crucial as well. A pro tip- invest in a pair of quality ski socks. Contrary to popular belief, thicker socks or double layers of socks actually make your feet colder than thin, wool ski socks. If you don't have the need for ski socks beyond our wedding weekend, we recommend choosing a pair of quality, thin, wool hiking socks.
I'm new to this. Should I ski or board?
Everyone in life is free to make their own choices.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Peter is a ski instructor, not a snowboard instructor.
- It's called "Ski Town, USA" not "Board Town, USA".
- Snowboarding is generally considered to be more difficult for first timers.
Are my children welcome to join us for the wedding?
While we both love children, we have chosen to keep our wedding weekend events (Welcome Drinks, Wedding, and Reception) child-free. We understand this could be potentially difficult for some of our guests, but rest assured that we are curating a vetted list of local babysitters and nannies that will be available by request. If you think you may need a babysitter or nanny, please let us know and we will send the list over. The kiddos are more than welcome to join us for our ski events!
Can I bring a guest to the wedding?
Unfortunately, due to venue capacity and planning, we are unable to accommodate additional guests outside of those who have received invitations. If you are unsure of whether or not you were given a plus one, please reach out to us and we can let you know.
What is there to do if I don't feel like skiing or snowboarding?
Steamboat and its surrounding areas offer unprecedented access to Colorado's natural beauty. Some other outdoor activities include: hot springs (Strawberry Park & Old Town), snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snow tubing, ice skating, and horseback riding. If you'd prefer something a bit less active, the shopping in downtown Steamboat never disappoints! Another great option is the Tread of Pioneers Museum.
What should I do if I find lift-served & on-piste skiing a bit bland?
If you're seeking more thrills than the typical resort offers, we highly recommend Steamboat Powdercats. They offer both man-powered, backcountry ski tours as well as snowcat skiing. (Also- Invite us to go with you!)
Will it be cold at your wedding?
In the shade and once the sun goes down, yes. The average daily high temperature in Steamboat in March is 43 degrees. During the day and in the sun, this will be a comfortable 43 degrees with proper layering for your anticipated activity level. Also, keep in mind that the sun feels much warmer at a high altitude.
On March 22, 2025, the sun will set in Steamboat Springs at 7:22 PM, and the entirety of our ceremony and cocktail hour will be in the late afternoon sun and twilight.
Baring unseasonably cool or stormy weather, guests should expect to be outdoors for the entirety of the ceremony. Upon arrival prior to the ceremony, and after the ceremony for cocktail hour, guests will have the option to be either indoors or outdoors, where propane heaters will be running. There is also a fire pit.
Both the barn (for arrival drinks & cocktail hour) and the pavilion (for the reception) are heated.
Where should we eat in Steamboat?
Before we get into restaurant recommendations, it is important to consider the following: for larger group dinners on Thursday, as well as any size group for dinner on Friday, we recommend making a reservation at least a month in advance (otherwise you may not have your choice of restaurant or seating time).
Now for the fun stuff.
For Breakfast, Lunch & Coffee, we love Winona's Restaurant, The Egg, Creekside Cafe, Powder Day Donuts, Yampa Valley Sandwich Company (DELISH), Big Iron Coffee Company, and Off the Beaten Path Coffee & Book Store.
For Dinner, we love Old Town Pub & Restaurant, Clyde's Pies, Mazzola's Italian Restaurant, Bésame Steamboat, Laundry, Mai Thai Cuisine, Taco Cabo, Salt & Lime, Yampa Yalley Kitchen, Back Door Grill, and E3 Chophouse.
For Après Ski, our favorite is T-Bar (Meet Shea and Peter here on Friday after the group ski for some classic dive bar vibes). Other great options are Slopeside Grill, Timber & Torch, and Los Locos.
If you are interested in exploring some of Steamboat/Colorado's craft breweries, we recommend that you check out Storm Peak Brewing Company, Mountain Tap Brewery, and the Barley Tap & Tavern.
