Shelby and Zach met the good old fashioned way...on Tinder. They swiped right, talked for a few weeks&nbsp;to learn more about each other and Zach asked Shelby out. Shelby thought Zach was being so nice offering to come out near her, little did she know they lived around the corner from each other. They went to ROCKS in Lakeview and chatted for hours. It ROCKED&nbsp;and the rest is history!

Our Story

Details

Marnie and Shelby met in 2011 while working for the JCC. Someone along the way made a poor decision and they got to share&nbsp;an office...not a lot of work got done. After both leaving the JCC, Shelby and Marnie&nbsp;have remained close friends. They&nbsp;enjoy dinners together, just hanging out or going to see plays (some &nbsp;good,&nbsp;some bad). Marnie is the kind of friend that goes out of her way to help you and support you in any way she can. Shelby was a Bridesmaid in Marnie's wedding in 2015 and Shelby can't wait to have Marnie stand beside her as her Matron of Honor at her wedding!

Eric William Roy is Zach’s younger and taller brother.  Zach first met Eric in September of 1990 and, upon introduction, 3- year-old Zach immediately declared that he would’ve preferred a sister!  Nevertheless, Eric was not to be deterred, and (THANKFULLY!) has played many roles in Zach’s life over the past 32 years. Early on; Eric was mess-maker, entertainer, partner-in-crime, victim, villain, and EVEN a show-and-tell display.  As Zach and Eric grew up, they evolved into confidants, coworkers, roommates, drinking-buddies, movers, world-travelers, bullfighters, and best of friends.  Eric was Zach’s co-pilot on his move to Chicago in 2014, the pivotal decision that eventually led him to Shelby.  Eric has always been a judgement-free sounding board and Zach is honored to declare Eric his “Favorite Brother” (sorry Nina!), and Best Man at his wedding!

Ian Jacobson is Shelby’s older brother, and Zach’s soon-to-brother-in-law.  Zach first met Ian (and Shelby’s dad Mark) at a dinner for one of the first nights of Channukah in 2018.  Zach was nervous to meet dad AND the older brother at the same time. Zach’s quickly saw their welcoming nature, and realized that there was no need for nerves, they talked hockey and Zach had his first taste of Matzah Ball Soup and Latkes with Applesauce. As a Colorado boy, Zach has a bit of an adventurous side, and thanks to Ian, Zach was able to let that side shine when he finally stood up (and fell down!) on a paddle board in choppy Lake Michigan waters.  Zach is excited for the exciting adventures to come, grateful to gain an older brother, and thrilled to have Ian be part of his wedding day.

Eric William Smith is Zach’s Delta-Chi Big Brother (who is also taller).  They met in 2005 during their freshman year of college in the Engineering Wing of the Allison Dorm at Colorado State University…Go Rams!  Zach pledged Delta Chi in 2006 and Eric became his Big Brother.  Eric and Zach bonded over CSU football, Delta Chi, and a love for Call of Duty, cheap food, cheaper drinks throughout college.  They have supported the Rams at bowl games across the Southwest, of which the Gildan New Mexico Bowl will not be beat!  A laugh will always be had for “Popcorn!! And Hot Dogs!!”, Friday “tradition”, and our personal sendoff to Units 2 and 3.  Zach is thrilled to have Eric stand up and share this momentous occasion in his life!

Eric Smith

Felix Peters is Zach’s German Brother.  Felix moved in with the Roy Family in August of 2003, and Zach had no idea how much his life would change for the better.  Felix cursed loudly at the PlayStation 2 (relaxing house rules on swearing), changed the household curfew rules, AND Felix is the reason Zach had his first beer at 17!  During Junior year, Felix and Zach played Tennis together, went snowboarding, played video games, watched as many sporting events as we could, and even met Jay Leno at a taping in Los Angeles.  They crammed a lot of adventure into those 10 months, and have since traveled to many exotic places like cliffs in Ireland, World Cups in Germany, [redacted] in Amsterdam, meet-ups in Portugal, white-water rafting in the Rocky Mountains, and most recently, a Broncos Game in Minnesota.  Zach is proud to call Felix his brother, and excited to have him standing next to him on his wedding day!

Although Alexis and Shelby went to high school together, they really became close when Alexis transferred to Indiana University in 2006.&nbsp;Alexis and Shelby got into the same sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. Alexis moved in with Shelby the summer between Sophomore year and Junior year and they lived together through the end of their Senior year. They shared rooms in the sorority house and had way too many special memories to recap. While&nbsp;Alexis stayed in Indiana and Shelby moved back to Chicago, they have remained close through the years. Shelby was Alexis' Maid of Honor at her wedding in 2012 and&nbsp;Shelby is looking forward to having Alexis stand by her at her wedding!

Alexis Shurtz

Celina (Nina) is Zach's sister and Shelby's soon-to-be sister&nbsp;in law. Shelby has always wanted a sister and she couldn't ask for a better one in Nina. Shelby first met Nina at a brunch in 2018 about 6 months after Shelby and Zach started dating. When they met, Shelby felt like she had known Nina forever and everything felt so comfortable. Shelby is excited to have Nina stand by her side, but even more excited to call her her sister!

Celina Roy

Melissa and Shelby have been friends since 2007 when they both joined the same sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. They are cousins in the sorority and Shelby considers Melissa family in real life as well. Shelby was the oldest person in the pledge class and Melissa the youngest, but that didn't stop them from becoming fast friends. While both living in Chicago, Melissa and Shelby enjoy hanging out together. Jewish Christmas (movie and Chinese) and NYE's celebrations are their favorite. Melissa is always there to lend an ear and Shelby is so excited to have her by her side on her wedding day!

Sheraton Chicago Northbrook Hotel

It is recommended to fly into O'Hare as you can easily get a cab/uber to the hotel. It is about a 10 minute drive (or less) from the Sheraton to Valley Lo Club. What is the timeline of events?

6:30pm Ceremony 7-8pm Cocktails and Appetizers 8pm-12am Dinner and Dancing

Where are all of the celebrations taking place?

The ceremony will be outside (weather permitting) at Valley Lo Club. It is a short walk to the ceremony site&nbsp;location. The ceremony&nbsp;will be on the green (plan your shoes accordingly). Cocktails and reception will also take place at Valley Lo Club&nbsp;and will be a short walk back to the main building.&nbsp; If you are unable to walk to or from the ceremony site, golf carts will be provided.

What time should I arrive?

We recommend arriving&nbsp;30 minutes before the start of the ceremony, to make sure everyone is on time and we can get the party started as scheduled.&nbsp;

What is the dress code?

Cocktail/Semi-Formal. Additionally, the ceremony will take place outside (weather permitting), so choose your shoes and attire&nbsp;accordingly. - Please no jeans, polos or sneakers - Please don't wear white :)

Can I bring a guest who is not listed on my invitation?

Due to space constraints at our venue, we are regrettably unable to extend invitations for additional plus ones not named on the invitation. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to celebrating with you!

Will children be allowed to attend?

Similarly to previous question, due to space constraints, we will only be able to extend invitations to children of close family, and their names will be listed on the invitation.

What if I am not vaccinated?

For the safety of all guests, we are requiring you be fully vaccinated in order to attend. Fully vaccinated means you must have your final dose by May 6th. A booster shot is also highly recommended.&nbsp;As of January 2022, Cook County is requiring proof of vaccination (physical or digital card)&nbsp;in order to enter the building.&nbsp;

Will the festivities be inside or outside?

The ceremony will be outside (weather permitting)&nbsp;in the grass, so plan accordingly with shoes and attire. Cocktails and the reception will take place inside. There is a balcony that allows people to step outside throughout the evening.

Where should guests park? Is parking free?

Our venue offers free self or valet parking. There is a large parking lot, so parking should not be an issue.&nbsp;If you have too much fun and need to leave your car there overnight, please let the venue know your car make and model and license plate and plan to pick up your car by 12pm on Sunday.&nbsp;

If I don't plan to drive, how can I get to venue and back to the hotel?

We will be providing complimentary shuttles from the hotel to venue and back to the hotel. Stay tuned for a more detailed schedule!

Can I take and post pictures of the wedding on Social Media?

When will I be receiving my invitation?

Invitations will be sent out in late February/early March 2022.

When should I RSVP by?

We ask that all guests RSVP&nbsp;no later than April 30, 2022.

I have dietary restrictions. How do I let you know?

When you fill out your RSVP card, please make sure to make a note of any dietary restrictions.

Will alcohol be served?

Yes,&nbsp;there will be open bar during cocktail hour. The bar will close for dinner and wine will be served at the table. After dinner, the bar will reopen for the remainder of the evening.&nbsp;Be sure to try our specialty cocktail :)
