Q + A

DO I NEED A PASSPORT TO ENTER CANADA?

Yes. Make sure your passport is up to date and doesn't expire before May 9th, 2024. Also check the Entry, Exit, & Visa Requirements here to make sure you are eligible to enter Canada.

Are children allowed to attend the events?

For the Wedding Reception on Sunday, only children of close family members are allowed due to the venue's limited seating capacity. However children are welcome at the Mendhi (Thursday), Mayian/Jago/Choora (Friday), and Wedding Ceremony (Saturday).

I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A SIKH WEDDING - WHAT ARE THE EVENTS/TRADITIONS?

Neither has Jack! Grab a cup of chai and a snack and browse through the "Sikh Wedding Explained" page to get an understanding of the events, expectations, dress code, etc. Dress code is also specified under each event on the homepage.

WHEN IS MY RSVP DUE?

Please RSVP as soon as you know that you can/cannot attend. The absolute cut-off date is February 29th. Our wedding ceremony lunch and reception day dinner will be buffet style and having an accurate head count ensures enough food for all attendees.

HOW DO I RSVP?

Click the tab "RSVP" and type in your name (if you can't find your invite, please search by last name and select the correct party). You will be prompted to RSVP to all events. If the events aren't displaying correctly, i.e., one person from your party isn't invited to all events, there is a chance we made an error when creating. Please contact Shelley and/or I via text, call, email, carrier pigeon and we can correct this. Everyone is invited to all events!

HOW DO I CHANGE MY RSVP?

Navigate to the "RSVP" tab and click "Update Response", then make the necessary changes. Please note that the cut-off date to let us know that you are attending is February 29th, 2024.

WHAT WEATHER SHOULD I EXPECT IN KELOWNA/PENTICTON IN MAY?

Moderate weather 50°-75°F/10°-23°C with low to moderate humidity. May is pre-forest fire season in Kelowna and Penticton. We recommend packing spring-early summer clothing, sunscreen and sunglasses to enjoy the sunny Okanagan.

WILL THE WEDDING BE INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?

Both the ceremony and reception venues are indoors. For reception, we will also have access to an outdoor deck and patio.

I'M ATTENDING FROM OUT OF TOWN - HOW DO I GET TO KELOWNA?

Please see the "Travel" page for all info on getting into Kelowna & Penticton and traveling around the Okanagan. REMEMBER if you are attending from the US, make sure your passport is up to date.

WHERE DO YOU RECOMMEND STAYING DURING THE WEDDING WEEK?

Please see the "Accommodations" page for all recommended places to stay. We have recommended staying in Kelowna for the duration of your stay, however it is an option to stay in Penticton for the first two events on Thursday and Friday. Please note that it is an hour drive between the two cities and a car rental is recommended.

WHAT CAN I DO IN KELOWNA?

Kelowna is a part of the gorgeous, sprawling Okanagan and we encourage guests to treat this trip as a vacation. If possible, book an extra day or two to explore what there is to offer. The Okanagan is known for its wineries (a majority being family friendly, having attached restaurants or bring your own picnic!). See the "Things To Do" page for more information.

I'M NOT SURE IF I CAN ATTEND AN EVENT AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO RSVP - WHAT SHOULD I DO?

We recognize the logistics of attending our wedding and respect that people's availability might change with family, PTO, etc. With this in mind, we would appreciate you letting us know if you can attend as soon as possible. If you are still 50/50 on your attendance by end of February 2024, please contact us. If anything changes or you need any further information, please do not hesitate to call/text Shelley and Jack.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Attire specifics are listed under each event in the "Sikh Wedding Explained" section. Want to wear traditional clothing? Great! Here are some of the many online retailers to get you started: Amazon, Etsy, Lashkaraa, House of Indya, Phulkari Shoppe, Kalki Fashion, Masaya Angels, Utsav Fashion. Please let us know if you have any questions or need guidance-we're more than happy to help!

What time should I arrive at the wedding?

We encourage guests to arrive at 9am for the Baraat. Jack will be arriving with his groomsmen, family and friends surrounding him and leading the celebration in dance, while Shelley's friends and family welcome them. This high energy event sets the tone for the day!
