Is it possible to fly in on the day of the wedding?
NO! It is a process to get from the airport to the island, so you will be late or exhausted if you try to arrive the same day as the wedding. We highly recommend flying in at least 1 or 2 days in advance.
What is the best way to get around Isla Mujeres?
The island is quite easy to get around. There are always taxis available or you can rent your own golf cart! Check out the "Travel" tab for more information.
Do you have any recommendations for transportation to the island, places to stay, or what else to do on the island?
Yes, please see the 'Travel' and 'Things to Do" sections on our website for these details.
Should I exchange money?
Cancún and Isla Mujeres are pretty flexible with accepting US dollars, pesos, and card. However, we recommend exchanging some currency to pesos as things can be cheaper this way. You might also enjoy hitting up some local spots that only accept pesos. We think it is best to exchange a small amount of money at the airport to have on hand to get around initially, but exchange rates are much better near the port where you will board the ferry to Isla Mujeres (save the bulk of your exchange for that)! As always, be discreet when grabbing money from your wallet and it is acceptable to bargain for prices all around (ie. taxis, souvenirs, beach front attractions, etc,)
Will I be able to get around if I don't speak Spanish?
Yes, many people in Cancún and on Isla Mujeres speak English since it it a high tourist destination. However, the locals love it when visitors try some Spanish too, so, get to practicing on Duo Lingo!
What will the weather be like?
In August, it is HOT, like our wedding! Prepare for humid 90° temperature and potential showers.
How should I dress for the wedding?
Wear something cute, comfortable, and light fabric, ya know, beach wedding vibes. We will be having the ceremony and reception outdoors with an ocean view. There is a pool and beach access on the property just in case you want to have a swim suit ready to cool off. AC will be available inside the villa.
Tell me more about the water and toilet situation...
Do NOT drink the water from any faucet or shower (this isn't Oregon). Mexico does not have the same type of filtration as many places in the US, so be prepared to stock your room with bottled water for drinking (and brushing teeth - if you're real concerned). Similarly, the septic systems are not the same as the US, so start practicing your 'wipe and trash'. Many places ask you to put toilet paper into the trash bin rather than flushing it down the toilet. So, when we are there we just make that our practice at every location - not trying to clog any toilets.
What should I do if I'm concerned about getting sea sick on the ferry?
Take some Dramamine! Although the ferry is large, there can be waves and wind that rock the boat, causing nausea.
