When is the RSVP deadline?
Please RSVP within four weeks of receiving your invitation. If you’re unable to attend, we’d truly appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible. Since we’re having an intimate wedding, this helps us extend invitations to other loved ones who would love to celebrate with us. Thank you!
What should I wear?
We’re celebrating outdoors in the summer heat! Our ceremony will be held outdoors with reception in a barn. We recommend breathable fabrics – think dressy-casual or semi-formal attire like sundresses and jumpsuits for the ladies, and short or long-sleeved cotton or linen button-ups, with slacks for the gentlemen. Fabrics like cotton, linen, and light wools will keep you the most comfortable. Wear comfortable shoes fitting for grassy terrain and uneven ground. No need for black tie, but let’s keep it fun and festive!
Are guests allowed to take photos?
No photos or videos are permitted during the ceremony—this is a firm request with no exceptions. We want everyone to be fully present, and our photographers will be capturing every moment. Guests are welcome to take photos before the ceremony, in the ready rooms, during cocktail hour, and at the reception, as long as it does not interfere with our photographer. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!
What will be served during cocktail hour?
Cocktail hour commences with hors d'oeuvres including sliders, chicken salad & croissants, and brie with jam & crackers.
What will be served during the reception?
Dinner will include a fresh garden salad with dinner rolls, chimichurri salmon, roasted broccoli, and roasted baby potatoes. For the little ones, we’ll have a kid-friendly chicken and pasta option. Tea and water will be served with the meal, and please note that outside alcohol is not permitted.
Why are you asking for monetary gifts for your registry?
We’re so grateful to have you celebrate with us, and that’s truly the best gift! Since we already have everything we need for our home, we’re dreaming of an unforgettable honeymoon adventure instead. If you'd like to contribute, we’d love that—but no pressure at all! Your presence and well wishes mean the world to us.
Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will be held outdoors on a stone patio overlooking the pond, followed by the reception in an unconditioned barn. The barn has large doors and fans that provide airflow.
How do I get to and from the wedding venue?
If you are flying in, please see the "travel" section.
What time should I arrive for the ceremony?
Guests should arrive at 6:00 PM for the processional, as the ceremony will begin at 6:30 PM.
Can I bring a plus-one?
As much as we'd love to share our special day with more people, we are unable to accommodate any plus-ones.
Will there be children and/or pets there?
Yes, there will be both children and our dogs there. The dogs will not be a part of cocktail hour or the reception.
Will we be able to spend time together before or after the wedding?
There are plenty of things to do in the area! Check the "things to do section". With us bringing our dogs, we are limited to outdoor activities such as hiking.
Where do I park?
For guest convenience, a parking attendant will direct you where to park your car the day of the wedding.
When does the party stop?
The reception will wrap up at 10:00 PM, and we kindly ask all guests to vacate the barn at that time.
What on-site activities are there?
The venue offers a firepit and space for yard games.
What is the climate like in the area?
Summer (June-August): Ashe County summers are warm and mild, with temperatures ranging from the upper 70s°F to the low 80s°F. The area receives an average of 4-5 inches of monthly rainfall, with occasional thunderstorms. Bugs are rarely a concern.
Will there be a rehearsal dinner?
No.
Where do we stay?
See the "travel" section for nearby accommodations. Guests are responsible for securing their own travel and lodging arrangements. No rooms have been blocked out for guests.
Why North Carolina?
Shillelagh's family & friends lives in Florida, while Mark's family & friends live in New York and New Hampshire. North Carolina is the perfect venue that offers a midway point for both families to attend the wedding.
Will there be restrooms on-site?
Yes. There are permanent restrooms.
What happens if it rains?
In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved inside the barn for an indoor setting. The mountain weather can be unpredictable, however, if conditions allow, the large barn doors can be opened to enjoy the scenery while keeping dry during the ceremony.
Will there be air conditioning or fans if it gets too hot?
The barn does not have air conditioning, but don’t worry—we’ve got plenty of ways to keep things cool! Large ceiling fans run throughout the space, and additional floor fans can be moved as needed. If it gets warm, we can also open the barn’s large doors and windows for better airflow.
Can I make a song request?
Of course! Please let us know your requests one month out from the wedding so that we may inform the DJ.
Will there be bug spray or sunscreen available?
We ask that guests come prepared.
Will we be walking on grass, gravel, or dirt?
You might. The distance from the ceremony site to the barn is short and features a paved pathway, however, traveling to the cabin, the "ready rooms", and other locations to take photos may not be paved.
What’s the best way to reach you if I have last-minute questions?
