The wedding day comprises of various rituals: Sehrabandhi – A traditional ceremony where a decorative veil (sehra) of flowers, pearls, or golden threads is tied onto the groom’s turban (safa), symbolizing modesty and protection from the evil eye. This takes place just before the groom departs for the Baraat, with close male relatives and friends also wearing safas. Baraat – A lively procession where the groom leads the way, often on a decorated horse, accompanied by family and friends (baraatis) celebrating with music, dancing, and dhol beats. It symbolizes the groom’s journey to his bride and the joyful union of two families. Milni – Following the Baraat, key male members of both families meet for the first time, exchanging garlands and gifts. This ceremony marks the joining of the two families in respect and celebration. Pheras – The most sacred ritual of the wedding, where the bride and groom circle the sacred fire (Agni) seven times, taking vows of love, loyalty, respect, and shared responsibility. Each round represents a promise for their life together, with the fire serving as a divine witness to their union.
