Flying to France
For our guests traveling from the U.S., we recommend flying into either Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) or Marseille Provence Airport (MRS).
If you land in Paris, we suggest spending some time exploring the city before heading south. From Paris, you can take a high-speed TGV train directly to Avignon, Inès's hometown. The train ride is about 2 hours and 45 minutes.
If you choose to fly into Marseille, the closest airport to Avignon (about an hour's drive), you’ll have two options to reach Avignon:
- Rent a car: A great choice if you plan to explore more of the region.
- Train/TGV
Important Travel Tips:
1. In Europe's Schengen area, your passport must be valid for at least six months at the time of your entry.
2. If you’re flying into Paris and taking the train to Avignon, we recommend allowing plenty of time between your flight’s arrival and your train’s departure. To make the trip more enjoyable and stress-free, consider spending a day or two in Paris after landing to explore the city before heading south.
For your return, we also suggest taking the train back to Paris at least a day before your flight to ensure a smooth journey home. This way, you’ll have time to account for any delays and enjoy a little more of the city!
Where To Stay & What To Do
We recommend our guests stay in Avignon intra muros (within the city walls) for the celebration; this historic area offers charming accommodations.
While in the region, we encourage you to take the time to explore some of the beautiful cities and towns nearby:
- Marseille: A vibrant port city with stunning coastal views and rich history.
- Aix-en-Provence: Known for its elegant architecture, lively markets, and artful charm.
- Gordes: A breathtaking hilltop village with stone houses and stunning views.
- Saint-Rémy-de-Provence: A picturesque town known for its connection to Van Gogh and its charming atmosphere.
- Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer: A seaside town in the Camargue, known for its sandy beaches, unique wildlife like flamingos and white horses, and the historic Church of Saintes Maries.
