I've known Cole for a long time, but one of the first memories where he truly took my breath away was at the Crowell Ranch Rodeo back in 2011 or 2012. Cole was competing with a couple of my cousins, and after his run, I just happened to make my way out of the stands to “accidentally” walk by him. He looked so handsome—sitting tall and confident in his saddle, his leg wrapped around the horn. It’s a picture that’s stuck with me ever since.

Cole and I have always been friendly—the kind of relationship where we could pick up right where we left off, no matter how much time had passed. But back then, it was never quite the right time—he usually had a girlfriend, or I had a boyfriend. So, I tucked him away in the “friend box,” though I always found myself checking up on him from time to time.

Then, on December 3rd, 2023, everything changed. As most people know, my little brother’s name is Colt. Well, Colt and Siri from my iPhone kind of changed our lives. Siri doesn’t quite understand my country accent, so when I asked her to “call Colt,” she decided to “call Cole Schur” instead. I hung up immediately—I honestly didn’t even realize I still had his number saved! But Cole called back and said, “This is Cole,” assuring me it was no problem at all. He was so sweet about it.

And then
it kept happening. Siri just couldn’t get it right! Those accidental calls turned into real conversations. We realized we were both still living in the Dallas–Fort Worth area and both dreaming about moving back home.

Fast forward to June 2024. I was in an Uber headed to the airport for a bachelorette trip, telling my friends this hilarious story about how Siri kept calling Cole. Mid-story, Siri must’ve heard her name because she chimed in and called him again! Suddenly, one of my friends yelled, “SKYLAR, you did it again—he’s on the phone!” So yes, Cole got to sit in on the story of how I’d been “accidentally” calling him for months.

Thankfully, he didn’t mind my accidental calls one bit. In fact, just a couple of days after he moved back home, we finally hung out. I told everyone we were “just going to be friends,” but oh, how wrong I was—and how thankful I am to have been wrong.

Cole is the man I prayed for my whole life. Looking back, we were always close—running in the same circles, just a few miles apart, crossing paths without seeing the bigger picture. It was not an accident. It was God’s timing, His beautiful plan, and maybe just a little help from Siri.

We cannot wait to celebrate the rest of our story with the people who mean the most to us. Here’s to every quiet nudge, every wrong call that turned right, and a love that finally answered.

I’ve always thought Skylar was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Back in high school, we would talk every time our paths crossed. As the years went by, we both set off to pursue our own adventures, each trial and triumph shaping us into the people we are today.

Then, one day out of the blue, I saw I had a missed call from Sky. We hadn’t talked in years. Feeling a bit nervous, I called her back. She picked up and said, I’m so sorry, Cole, I told Siri to call Colt! I laughed it off and didn’t think much of it. About a week later, it happened again. This time, I thought to myself, If this happens one more time, I’ve got to say something!

A week or two later, I was guiding a fishing trip on Lake Texoma when I saw her name pop up again. My nerves and excitement both hit at once. When she told me once more that it was Siri’s fault, I couldn’t help myself. I said, “Darlin’, if you want to talk to me, just call me—no need to pretend it’s Colt.” I think that smooth line did the trick, because when I moved back to Vernon, I managed to talk her into going out a few times—and the rest is history.

God placed us in each others lives at the perfect time. I love her strong will, her beauty inside and out, her heart, her contagious laugh, her love for God, and her love for her family. Honestly, I could go on for days.

I love her with my whole heart and will cherish her every day. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you, future Mrs. Schur.
