Mac and Sommer have been dating for just over 13 years. The couple first met in 2008 at Seaholm high school. They were both enrolled in Flex, a seminar style combined English and social studies program where they spent the first two hours each day. During Mac’s senior year he and Sommer sat next to each other in honors creative writing, where their friendship was formed. Sommer talked his ear off and distracted him from doing his work. That summer, they started hanging out outside of school, but Mac was leaving for undergrad at MSU. The two would still get together when he came home from college on breaks, and Sommer even went to visit him to go to her first MSU football game. In 2012, Sommer graduated from high school and decided to pursue her own undergraduate degree at MSU. When Mac came home from school, Sommer came over to Mac’s house to bake Ally (her maid of honor) a birthday cake. While mixing the cake, they had their first kiss. Sommer then took him to Movement electronic music festival in Detroit for his 20th birthday. To no one’s surprise the two got together and dated throughout their time at MSU.

Mac graduated from MSU in 2015, and Sommer in 2016. The two moved in together the next year with some friends in Ferndale, MI. In 2018 they went to a half canceled festival in Florida where they met and kept in touch many friends who lived throughout the country (many of whom will be in attendance at the wedding). They got their first fur baby, Mochi, in 2019. The following year Sommer got accepted to PA school at UD Mercy, and Mac was her #1 support while she studied. Sommer graduated in 2021 and started working at Powers Family Medicine. They welcomed home their second fur baby, Moose, in 2022. They continued living with friends in Ferndale until buying their own house in Royal Oak in 2023.

The couple was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras 2024 to celebrate Sommer’s 30th birthday and got to spend the weekend surrounded by some of their closest friends. On that trip, Mac took Sommer to the New Orleans botanical gardens, where he proposed to her in a glass greenhouse surrounded by giant begonias.

Som and Mac have always had a taste for adventure, and spent their earlier years traveling the country to attend a multitude of music festivals. To date, they have attended:

-9 years of Electric Forest

-6 Dirtybird festivals

-2 Arc festivals

-2 (soon to be 3) Desert Hearts festivals

-1 Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE)

They have been to 5 different countries together (France, Germany, Amsterdam, Mexico) & numerous state and national parks across the country. The most memorable being Joshua tree, Yosemite, and Big Sur. They are looking forward to planning out their honeymoon to Southeast Asia, and are currently looking at Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Japan as possible destinations!
