Where is the wedding?

It will be in Big Bend National Park, at Santa Elena Canyon. We will be inside US Borders.

WHAT is Big Bend National Park?

Big Bend National Park is an American national park located in West Texas, bordering Mexico. The park has national significance as the largest protected area of Chihuahuan Desert topography and ecology in the United States, and was named after a large bend in the Rio Grande/Río Bravo. The towns surrounding Big Bend are where visitors normally stay such as Alpine, Lajitas, Terlingua and Marathon. “Big Bend National Park is in southwest Texas and includes the entire Chisos mountain range and a large swath of the Chihuahuan Desert. The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive leads to the ruins of Sam Nail Ranch, now home to desert wildlife. The Santa Elena Canyon, carved by the Rio Grande, features steep limestone cliffs. Langford Hot Springs, near the Mexican border, has pictographs and the foundations of an old bathhouse. “

How far is the drive from me?

From Mississippi, the drive to Big Bent National Park and surrounding towns is roughly 15 hours. From Houston or South Texas, the drive is roughly 10 hours. From Austin, the drive is between 7-8 hours From San Antonio, the drive is around 6 hours.

Is it safe to drive there in any vehicle?

The answer is YES. Be prepared for a long drive. I suggest coming on the I10 route where you will pass into Fort Stockton and Alpine. Those are THE LAST TOWNS you will pass by with cheaper gas, food and supplies. Once you pass Alpine and headed into Terlingua; the land is scarce. Be sure to fill up with gas while passing through Alpine. There are only 3 gas stations between Terlingua, Lajitas and Big Bend National Park.

What should I bring with me?

BRING WATER! BRING COOLERS! BRING SAFE SHOES! BRING WARM CLOTHES! The land is SCARCE. Please be prepared, there is not a Walmart or big store in these parts of Texas. Bring bottled or gallons of water, coolers with food (IE Sandwhiches, meat to cook) and things to snack on. There are only a couple of restaurants in the area so be prepared to cook! Your shoes are important, bring strong shoes to walk in! Since we will be here in December remember to bring WARM CLOTHING!

How long does it take to get around between the towns and Big Bend?

It can take 30 minutes to 2 HOURS to get from one place to another. There is A LOT of driving that comes into getting around this area. The land is VAST AND WIDE.

How much is gas in this area?

Gas is normally around $4.00 a gallon.

Can I bring extra people who weren’t invited?

NOT TO THE RECEPTION OR CEREMONY. If you need assistance driving then that’s fine! We are having a small intimate wedding and would like to keep it that way! If trouble comes with commuting, please let Adrian or Sonia know.

Where can we stay at?

My suggestion is to stay near us in Lajitas or Terlingua and to stay with a larger group of people to split the costs. There are not many hotels, but there are PLENTY of Air BnBs that people own on their properties. Look on AirBnB “Terlingua Texas” for homes to stay at. Look in our travel area of the website for some suggestions.

ARE THERE ANIMALS?!

Um, yes. But they won’t mess with you if you don’t mess with them.

Do you have a registry?

Just a Honey Fund on our website. We prefer cash gifts since we haven’t bought our home yet. 😊
