Sophia and Grant crossed paths on September 22, 2019, while studying for midterms at LSU. Sarah, Sophia's close friend, lived across the hall from Grant and introduced the two. There was an instant connection between them, though it would take nearly two more months for Grant and Sophia to begin dating.

On November 7th, Grant's fraternity hosted a social event with Sophia's sorority at City Bar in Baton Rouge. The event was themed "Winter Wonderland," and Sophia arrived dressed in full ski gear, a stark contrast to Grant, a New Orleans native, who opted for shorts and a t-shirt. Light-hearted teasing ensued regarding his attire, and the two spent the remainder of the night talking in a corner of the bar.

Their first date took place at Top Golf on November 13th, a date of personal significance to Sophia as it coincided with her parents' wedding anniversary.
