Sophia and Dirk started dating in May of 2014 after having known each other through work for a few years. In September 2014, they attended their annual friends Labor Day picnic for the first time as a couple.

Dirk and Sophia begin their tradition of superior couples costumes at Halloween. 2017 was Gomez and Morticia Addams.

Dirk and Sophia celebrate Krampusnacht in the Blackstone District dressed as Saint Nicholas and Krampus. This became an annual tradition until the Pandemic.

Sophia and Dirk return to KC for the week between Christmas and New Year's. They enjoy attempting to run in the snowy hills between eating and drinking all the area has to offer.

Dirk and Sophia travel to Santa Fe (and Chimayo) New Mexico, where Sophia spent many Summers as a child.
