A Delhi boy and a Gujarati girl who incidentally lived 15 minutes away from each other but never crossed paths. God knows how many times they were part of the same groups or parties yet never crossed paths. In the story of How I met my Bhavika, there are many life lessons and character development. I wholeheartedly believe, she wouldn’t have liked the 2015 version of me - he was too arrogant (yup even more than now). She wouldn’t have fallen in love with 2016 version of me - I only impressed Bernie Sanders that year. And, she definitely wouldn’t have married the 2017, 18, 19 Or 2020 version of me - that guy was doing a lot of growing up. This Ahmedabadi born and Chicago suburbs raised girl never imagined falling in love with a Delhi boy out of nowhere but he came and rocked her world over night. After dating and meeting so many wrong frogs whether online or through family I had finally found my Mr. Right. The day I first came into contact with Sourabh another friend had gotten engaged, seeing them so happy and excited to start the future, I was finally taking a full interest in dating again after giving up for close to 3 years. The same day I matched with Sourabh on Hinge and initiated the first conversation, later that same day even called him up to directly speak to him. Our first conversation although over the phone had no awkwardness but instead it felt an easy connection. From that day on we started to talk and text on the daily, four days into the conversation Sourabh asked me on our first date. I was immediately impressed when he offered to pick me up at the door like a gentleman. However, afraid to have him come to my house and never having experienced a boy picking me up at the door for first date I had respectfully declined. But fate had different plans, turned out I did not have my car that day so I told my mom about the date and asked him to pick me up. Sourabh was nothing but a gentleman and opened the door for me and made sure I safely got into the car. This was a very new experience for me as he was the first guy ever to do such thing, but he did create an impression. From then on not a day has gone by where he did not open the car door for me, or stayed away from me. We both had to go through our own roads, learn our own lessons, fight our own battles just so we can find each other at the right time and help each other in the most unique ways possible. There is no love at first sight on hinge but when you spend 10+ hours together on your first date, it’s safe to say we sure as hell had chemistry. On date two they were cooking together, and by they we mean Bhavika was doing the cooking (well mans gotta eat). Add another 20 meetings in less than 4 weeks and you’ll have this tingling feeling of “she’s the one” and “he’s the one”that’s the feeling they had when she went away for the first time. They couldn’t get each other out of their minds. After years of heartaches and disappointments, Sharma Ji was finally feeling what he thought was not possible - love. After years of heart breaks and wrong frogs she had found her Prince Charming. Punjabi Munda wasted no time, after staying away for week he proposed family meetings while admitting his solid feelings for the Gujju girl. The meeting of the Thakkar’s and Sharma’s is a story in itself. Fun fact Bhavika’s dad and Sourabh’s mom share the same name, “Mukesh” that was one of the many things we laughed about when the families came together. Their blessings only grew our relationship stronger and we wasted no time to get ROKAFIED. In the short time of knowing each other, we’ve done it all. We have cooked together, danced together, attended weddings together across cities and countries, laughed and cried together. We have shared and continue to share our bollywood obsession together. We have travelled together, lost and found each other in chandani chawk, eaten gol gappe together, ridden auto-rikhshas together and now planning a life together. “Dil le gayi kudi gujraat di”, well this tune will be playing at the wedding and in the back of our heads for the rest of our lives.
