G. Fisherman's Feast of the Madonna Del Soccorso di Sciacca - August 15-18, 2024 http://www.fishermansfeast.com/ This Feast began in Boston in 1910 and is based on a tradition that goes back to the 16th century in Sciacca, Sicily. The Feast is based on the devotion of the fishermen from Sciacca to the Madonna del Soccorso (Our Lady of Help). When the fishermen immigrated to America in the early 1900s, they brought their traditions with them. Today's Feast is much the same as it was over 100 years ago, with lights adorning the street and food stalls crowding the streets. The Fisherman's Feast is located in Boston's historic North End on North, Fleet and Lewis Streets. Easily accessible from Hanover St. and just off of the Freedom Trail. The feast culminates on Sunday with a seven-hour procession of the Madonna through the streets, and finally the grand “Flight of the Angel,” where two girls dressed as angels recite an Italian devotion and a third angel flies down from a third-story window to meet the Madonna.
