For years, Dwayne was always my brother's weird friend who always wore overalls or cut-off shorts to our pond parties. I had no interest in dating him, and apparently he felt the same about me. Fast forward to a bonfire in the spring of 2021. We were sitting around the fire when the topic of Brumleve relationships came up. Dwayne jokingly made the comment that Brumleve's always find a good German spouse to marry and bring them back to Cobden to have a family with. Brenlee, who had been nagging me about dating Dwayne for months, made the comment, "Well, Dwayne, are you German?" With this comment, I knew exactly where she was taking the conversation. Before I could walk away to avoid the embarrassment, she said "I know a good Brumleve girl you can date," and looked right at me. If my looks could kill.... Anyways, apparently that sparked an idea in Dwayne's head, because the following week he invited me to a bonfire at his house. I figured, "what could it hurt?" and decided I would give it a chance and go. Well, this "bonfire" turned out to be a poker night with his friends, which included my brother. I was the only girl there and said maybe 3 words to Dwayne the whole night. I left and thought, "well this isn't going to work." The following weekend, he asked me out to dinner. After the whole "bonfire" thing, I was reluctant, but I decided I had nothing to lose and might as well give it one more chance. Needless to say, I stuck around after that dinner and have to admit...maybe my family was right and I should taken their advice a long time ago.
