A donut miss in Portland! Swing by any time of the day or night after exploring downtown. Located in Portland's historic Chinatown district, voodoo gained popularity with the "keep portland weird" culture.
Best view in the city. Roses will be in bloom, you can look at them while also taking in all of Portland and Mt. Hood.
The rose garden is attached to Washington Park which is a great place to let kids off the leash.
Go here in the morning because space in the parking lot fills up fast. Most of the trails are still closed due to fires a few years back so the hike is easy for kids.
Note: There are MANY waterfalls close to the venue: Oneata george, Latourell Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Wahkeena Falls... Just type in a quick google maps search and they all appear. Bring hiking shoes and even a swimsuit if you plan on doing some of these as they can get quite adventurous.
Hawthorne is a very fun and eclectic neighborhood. Tons of vintage stores (THE BEST is Red Light). The Sapphire Hotel* is at the end of this street and has fantastic cocktails in an intimate restaurant setting.
Steph's choice for breakfast every time is Jam on Hawthorne. Portland brunch culture demands long outdoor wait times (but it's worth it!) and they give you coffee while you wait.
*It was at the sapphire hotel over a jalapeño cocktail with a friend that Steph realized she should go out with Tim.
The Gorge is GORGEOUS. This is where Tim and I have chosen to get married. You'll find dramatic waterfalls, overlooks, and lots of hiking. Just get out and explore it when you get sick of Portland traffic. If you are more interested in small town sites; I highly recommend heading down the road to Hood River, Oregon. Great little city with lots of shops and breweries.
Portland is renowned for its extensive beer selection. Here are some of them that we would recommend
- Upright
- Wayfinder
- Sasquatch
- Breakside
- Ruse
- Culmination
- Gigantic
- Migration
- Madcow
- Hoppy brewer

Just minutes from downtown Portland, the Arboretum is a unique place to hike, learn, and explore. Straddling a ridgetop in Washington Park, the Arboretum hosts over 2,300 tree species from six continents. Twelve miles of hiking trails wind through our 189 acres, providing access to a globally diverse landscape, from stands of stately redwoods to groves of flowering dogwoods and cherries, exhibiting many rare and threatened species along the way.
OMSI is a science and contains three auditoriums, including a large-screen theatre, planetarium, and exhibition halls with a variety of hands-on permanent exhibits focused on natural sciences, industry, and technology. Transient exhibits span a wider range of disciplines.
The wedding will feature wine from Lange Estate in Oregon's wine country. Take a tour while you are in town and visit some of the other gorgeous wineries in the area. Definitely worth the drive.
