Skylar and I met two years ago through Facebook dating (we know, very modern!). We spent a whole month and a half constantly texting and calling each other every day. In December 2022, we formalized our relationship and became an official couple. In January 2023, we started long - distance while Skylar was working out of the state and I made a career change. We continued messaging and calling each other every day working on strengthening our relationship and our communication.
In the middle of our long-distance, Skylar asked me if I wanted to go to Italy with his family during the summer. I was surprised but excited to have the opportunity of traveling to that part of the world with him and his family. In July 2023, we traveled to Iowa to meet his family and along with his mom, grandma and nephew, we departed to Italy.
It was a two week long trip filled with beautiful places, rich history, growth and unforgettable memories. I think we both agree the most memorable day of that trip was July 23th, 2023: the day Skylar formally asked me in front of his family and God (and some tourists) as his witnesses, if I would marry him. It was the easiest YES! And that is coming from a very indecisive woman.
We celebrated together the rest of the trip and made sure to include my family back in Florida and Puerto Rico. We were filled with many blessings, happy wishes and lots of hugs.
Our journey continued after we got engaged with Skylar being home for a couple of months and us finding our own path as a couple full time. It has been a learning experience for both of us filled with ups and downs. However, the love, respect and faith in each other and our relationship has become more and more stronger with every passing day. We have been each other's strength in our lowest moments and the biggest supporters in our respective journeys. We have lifted each other and quickly realized this is the path God has called us to follow for Him and His glory.
Our story is far from perfect and our relationship is in constant growth and consistently evolving. But the goal is still the same: to glorify God with our lives, our relationship and our marriage; to chose to love and respect each other as partners in this journey and to become a strong pilar as a family in our community, our Church, and our families.
We are beyond grateful to God for all the blessings he has showered us with throughout the years and during our relationship. We want to thank our families and friends that have supported us through this journey and to everyone that plays an important part in our lives. Our story is just beginning and we ask for your prayers today and always to stay strong in God's love and mercy. May God bless you today and always. We love you!
