Things to Do

Believe it or not, there's lots to do and places to eat in Dubuque in the winter, such as:

MISSISSIPPI RIVER MUSEUM AND AQUARIUM:

Part Museum, part aquarium, and part science center. Learn all you can about the Mississippi River and more!

SUNDOWN MOUNTAIN RESORT:

An award winning ski destination in the midwest with over 85 acres and 21 scenic trails. This ski resort has 21 varied ski runs & 2 terrain parks. Not bad for Dubuque, Iowa.

DUBUQUE MUSEUM OF ART:

The Dubuque Museum of Art is Iowa's oldest cultural institution, established in 1874 and is located in downtown Dubuque. The museum is home to a collection of approximately 2,200 works, including one of the world's largest collections of Grant Wood art.

LOTS OF PLACES TO EAT:

Here are some of the best places (and the Gorrell family favorites) to eat:

Brazen Open Kitchen: Seasonally fresh local ingredients, prepared with technique that enhances the taste and locally harvested. In 2014, Chef Kevin Scharpf, owner, received First Place at the Taste of Elegance competition and in 2016 was named one of the FSR magazines '40 under 40" Rising Stars. Kevin competed in season 15 of Bravo's "Top Chef" and was awarded the 2019 Iowa Restaurant Associations Chef of the Year. Brazen is close to Hotel Julien Dubuque.

Roses & Berries:

New to Dubuque, Roses & Berries not only serves the best crepes and pastries in town, but also authentic European dishes, all in a beautifully decorated restaurant. Roses & Berries is about 10 minutes from Hotel Julien Dubuque.

Charlottes Coffee House:

Close to Hotel Julien Dubuque, Charlottes has amazing coffee, teas and more, including yummy pastries, sandwiches and the best acai bowls! Great for breakfast or lunch.

Carolines Restaurant:

If you don't want to leave Hotel Julien Dubuque, they have their own restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have a great Sunday brunch!
