The universe has a funny way of listening to our dreams. Almost five years after Kiley wrote her school reflection in the cover of "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck, Steven Steinbeck and Kiley McCombs met.

Steven graduated from UCSD with a bachelor's degree in Real Estate Development! Kiley celebrated by surprising him on his birthday with a handmade stole and graduation photos after commencement was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Kiley's 19th Birthday

Kiley graduated from U of A with degrees in Biology and Physiology & Medical Sciences and minors in Biochemistry, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Empathy in Medicine and was awarded valedictorian! Steven and her family stayed in Tucson for a week and celebrated each day!

As a graduation gift to Kiley, Steven took Kiley to Cancun for a week! Their first out-of-country vacation together! (P.S. spot where he eventually proposed in the background!)

Christmas is a favorite holiday for Steven and Kiley. This year, they started the tradition of everyone having matching Christmas PJs, including the dogs!

Christmas morning with matching PJs! Don't worry, the dogs matched too!

Steven, Kiley, Donna, and Taylor took a week cruise down the west coast of Mexico together!

Steven and Kiley took a catamaran to a private island near Puerto Vallarta and swam to shore!

Their day in Cabo started with riding jet skis around the ocean. They stayed at Milky Beach for lunch and drinks and raced back to port on a water taxi to get back on the cruise ship in time! Top Jet Ski Speeds: Steven: 42 mph Kiley: 70 mph

Steven asked Dan and Donna for their blessing to marry Kiley. After some shared tears and hugs, they celebrated with a nice bottle of wine.

Steven played with Kiley's promise ring while holding her hand at lunch as they ate their tacos and sipped on margaritas. Kiley was completely obliviously that Steven would propose the next day!

She said YES! Steven booked a private dinner on the beach during sunset in Cancun. As dessert came out, he asked "Kiley, will you continue to make me the happiest man and marry me?" Kiley stood there in complete shock, to which Steven prompted, "Will you??" She excitedly exclaimed yes and kissed him. Off her promise ring went and on slid her engagement ring!

After forty four dresses tried on, Kiley said yes to the dress! She was able to share this special moment with Grandma Marlene in Nanaimo, Canada. Donna, Terry, and Taylor were able to help Kiley try on dresses in Los Angeles as well!

A gondola ride through the Venetian with Ryan. With over a mile walk from the hotel each way, Steven stopped to replace Kiley's heels with flip-flops!

The McCombs Clan celebrated Kiley's 21st birthday in Las Vegas, a tradition started by Grandma Pat.

Kiley celebrated starting at UCSD School of Medicine at her White Coat Ceremony with Steven, Dan, and Donna. She officially became Student Doctor McCombs-Steinbeck!

Donna visited Steven, Kiley, and Ryan at UCSD. In a few years, all three will be UCSD alumni!
