We have two stories and some have heard one over the other so welcome to those who haven't heard both. The story we tell most often is actually only half true. It goes as follows...We met in band at PSU, he was the outgoing heart-throb of the band and she was the quiet saxophone. We slowly became friends though mutuals and the rest is history. That's not far from the truth but still fiction.
Her side:
We actually met through Tinder. Two right swipes is all it took. He opened the conversation asking about Elphaba and it took off from there. The next day we had our first date consisting of gas station ice cream, watching the office, and having good conversation. That weekend I invited him to a haunted house (which he absolutely hated) and had Ember join to get her to read on him. Sumner didn't even make it 2 minutes in the haunted house before he asked to be escorted out by a spooky nun. I admired him for even trying in the first place. The next weekend he asked me to come to Arkansas to meet his parents. I hadn't even known this man for a full week and I was meeting his family, I didn't care, deep down I knew he was the one. That weekend he took me to Crystal Bridges and Kennedy Coffee where we spent an entire afternoon chatting about life, our fears, our dreams, and what we liked on our pizza. I fell in love with Sumner Mackey sitting at the ocean table over a honey bee latte. Little did I know that that was the blueprint for my future proposal.
His side:
Shaylor and I met on Tinder. I had it for less than a week and she had just redownloaded it. I guess the universe knew that it was time. We matched and the first thing I asked was, “Oh my god what is your dog’s name”. From that moment on, the conversations never ended. My falling in love with her is an accumulation of hilarious and cute first impressions. We talked for a day or two on tinder before we actually hung out. She sent me her snapchat before we met and I added her. The first snap she ever sent me was a video of her saying “Hi, my name is Shaylor and I’m currently driving to my landlord's house because I locked myself out of my apartment…again. Hope you’re having a good day.” It instantly made me smile and my heart started fluttering. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life. On our first time meeting in person to get ice cream from pete’s gas station, the first thing she ever said to me was, “Hey, just so you know I don’t beat my dog” (Elphie had hurt her leg on a walk a few days earlier and was walking with a limp) That simple joke took away any fear, anxiety, nervousness, or awkwardness from ever occurring. That night was amazing, sitting on the couch and talking about everything from favorite colors to life goals and everything in between. From the moment I left that apartment the first time, I knew that this girl was someone like I had never met before. I got in my car and immediately texted my dad and told him that I just met the most amazing girl I’ve ever met. In the almost 3 years since that night, I have never stopped falling more and more in love with Shaylor and I am so glad that she decided to swipe right.
Also, I lasted a good 5 minutes in that haunted house.
