Chris and Sunya started working together Oct. 2015 at NSVFD. Chris was an engineer and Sunya was a probational firefighter. Through work they became good friends. Over the years when Chris was promoted to Captain and Sunya a LT they continued a great friendship as colleagues. Sunya later moved to Unalaska, but returned to Fairbanks in 2019. By 2022, Chris and Sunya reconnected their friendship. Even after 4 years, the friendship effortlessly picked up, and continued when they started dating.

Chris and Sunya took at cruise to the end of the world in January. They explored Antartica, as well as, several other countries in South America. While there Chris proposed to Sunya while they were surrounded by penguins.

While Chris and Sunya were contemplating on different ways to say "I DO", they both decided they needed to match the engagement story by taking a helicopter to a glacier near an active volcano in Alaska to get married. Although they both would have loved for you to be there, seating is very limited on a helicopter.

We were fortunate enough to have Shaun, John and Tiffany accompany us on the ice to share our special day.
