Timothy's Version:
It was the middle of February 2023 when I sent this cute girl a message on Catholic Match, and get this, she actually replied back. In fact, Susan and I texted paragraphs upon paragraphs back and forth for about a week and a half. It was only after I had asked her on a date when I realized she lived 1.5 hours away (Yikes). Regardless, she was really clutch by agreeing to meet roughly halfway in Iowa City. After an evening of bowling and Mexican for dinner, we both quickly found that we shared so much in common. We both came from large families, could play the piano, and had the same dry sense of humor. What ultimately solidified future dates with Susan was the fact that we both instinctively went to pray right before eating. I knew I had found someone who shared my Catholic faith, and that after many more dates, meeting families, long car rides, and chaotic dates, I knew she was the one. I sneakily called the jewelry store that Susan worked for under a false alias, just in case she answered the phone. Fast forward a few weeks, and I finally popped the question in the most mediocrely romantic place in the world, her home's entry by the stairs. Susan, who shares the same name as my late grandmother, has been the answer to my prayers. It's fitting that my grandmother's birthday would also be the day that we will finally tie the knot.
Susan's Viewpoint:
I had pushed dating to the back burner in my mind and didn't really have high expectations on our first date. Bowling and Mexican were not only a lot of fun, but the conversation also flowed so naturally, I remember calling my sister on the way home and commented on how easy it was to talk to him. Of course, our shared faith was the highest priority for me, but knowing that we could talk to each other that easily from day one was a green flag as well. As we continued to spend time with each other, meet each other's families, and go through new and different situations with each other, it didn't take long to realize that Timothy was the one for me. It was barely even a question when he proposed. We're so happy that our family and friends are able to share in our day together and can't wait to see what else God has in store for us.
