KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

Picture of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

KLM is a Dutch airline that provides direct flights from San Francisco to Amsterdam, and many other airports. We generally fly with them when travelling to or from the United States and have enjoyed the customer service (and leg room). All meals and drinks are currently included in the price as well as hand luggage.

They are also a sister company of Air France and Delta, so you may see other cheaper flights that are indirect when exploring ticket options.

**They currently require masks the entire flight, but this may change in the next few weeks due to vaccinations and regulations**

Website

Public Transport -Arriva, train, metro

This website will help you plan train and bus schedules for your time in the Netherlands should you prefer to use public transportation, or if the weather takes a turn for the worst!

9292 is also an application you can download to use for easier access, however it is only available in Dutch.

You need to purchase tickets per ride or day, each paper ticket has a euro fee. If you pay in cash, it must be at the larger stations (keep this in mind because not all credit/debit cards from America work at the machines). You may also purchase a travel card (like the clipper card for BART), this is an additional €7,50, but you can reload at any time and keep for a few years. The latter option also allows you to cash out the balance at the end of your trip.

We can discuss advance purchases if you would like assistance with this aspect of the planning.

**Masks are currently required to use public transportation, taxis, etc.**

Bikes and ebikes!

For traveling around Leiden and surrounding cities, biking works easiest!
This shop is directly located at the train station in the center of Leiden, easy for those who would like to grab a bike as soon as they arrive.

There are other shops in the area as well, but these folks allow you to rent an ebike for up to a week at a price of €100. They have normal bikes as well, with pedal brakes and hand brakes. Check with your hotel accommodations, however, as some air bnbs and hotels have bikes to rent on site as well.

P.s. yes, that's Ben and Karl.
