What is Camp Lakotah?
Camp Lakotah is a private summer camp for kids, teens, and adults located beside a pristine lake on acres of pine forest in Wautoma, Wisconsin. We've rented out the whole camp for the entirety of Memorial Day weekend 2022 for our wedding celebration.
What are the accommodation options?
We've rented the entirety of Camp Lakotah including sleeping quarters for Memorial Day weekend 2022. We would love as many guests as possible to stay onsite at the camp with us. Camp Lakotah has a variety of lodges and cabins across the property, including two large main lodges overlooking the lake, one large modern lodge we're designating as a "quiet lodge," and many more options inland. All bathrooms are shared, and beds are bunk-style twins. Lodges and some cabins also feature a kitchenette and electricity. The cost per head of cabin accommodations is $35/night.
You are also welcome (encouraged!) to car or tent camp! The property is extensive with many lovely camping sites. Electricity, showers, & bathrooms are available in the nearby lodges.
However, we understand that not everyone will enjoy the "summer camp" experience. There are several hotels available in nearby downtown Wautoma; there are also plentiful AirBnB's in the surrounding area.
Whatever you decide, please let us know so we can ensure you & your party's needs are accounted for :)
Should I plan to stay the whole weekend?
We would love that! We have activities planned for Saturday May 28 (ceremony & reception) and Sunday May 29 (camp activities like kayaking, paintball, archery). There will be a light farewell brunch Monday morning. However, we understand our guests have other obligations, so you are welcome to stay for as many events as you like! Just indicate on your invite so we can plan meals accordingly.
What is the dress code?
In short, "dress as your most powerful self."
We want to celebrate all the brilliance and strength of our friends and family, who have inspired and empowered us to build a transcendently powerful romantic partnership. So we want to see you dressed as a glamorous or formal version of your Best Self to the ceremony and reception! That being said, please refrain from wearing red and black patterned outfits, and from wearing all-white outfits (bride and groom are wearing those colors).
A note on shoewear: the ceremony will take place in a pine grove with lots of roots and potentially mud underfoot. North Woods Wisconsin can be cool or warm this time of year. We recommend having shoes for the ceremony that won't be ruined by a walk through the forest and grass and sitting in a grove that may be muddy. Feel free to change into heels or fancier shoes for the reception (currently planned to be in the indoor main lodge)
Activity Day will take place on Sunday, so bring outdoorsy clothes for kayaking, swimming, paintball, and archery. A pair of hiking-friendly shoes is recommended.
Is this a religious wedding?
Nope! Nils & Tara believe in revering nature, taking care of others, and social justice. While we technically come from different spiritual backgrounds, these are the values that unite us. The ceremony itself will feature symbols, literature, and rituals that come from both sides, as well as some innovations of our own.
What if I can't make it in person?
Livestream options will be made available for those who want to watch the ceremony but cannot attend in person.
Are kids invited?
Absolutely! Camp Lakotah is expansive and kids will have a blast romping around the grounds and enjoying camp activities on Sunday. In fact there's a few cabins that we think would be great for families with kids. We know our guests have kids of all ages and we think this will be fun for all.
A NOTE: babysitting services will not be provided
If you have questions or would like us to help you figure out accommodations, please get in touch!
How do I get in touch with the bride and groom?
Tara McGovern: tmcgovern1648 at gmail dot com
Nils Robbins: nils.robbins at gmail dot com
What if there is another COVID surge?
Camp Lakotah is a mostly-outdoors venue. In the case of another surge or variant, we will plan to have all the festivities using outdoor options.
We will also ask everyone to take a test and confirm a negative result before arriving, and we ask that all our guests be fully vaccinated.
For those staying on-site, spreading out among the cabins and campsites should be safe in a pinch.
Is the bride wearing white?
Nope! Tara has commissioned a custom red and black ballgown, so please avoid wearing red/black patterned outfits. Plain red or black is fine however!
The groom , on the other hand, will be wearing white.
What if I need special accommodations, or have an eating restriction?
Please let the bride and groom know (tmcgovern1648 at gmail dot com and nils dot robbins at gmail dot com) and indicate on your RSVP. We'll do what we can to make sure you have a great time.
