I was actually nervous about meeting Tate in college because his reputation as an exceptional trumpet player preceded him. I thought he was all music and business. However, I quickly learned that his remarkable musicianship isn’t the only aspect about him. He’s fun, easygoing, and can always make my day better even if it’s already good. I’m beyond grateful we got so close as we progressed through school and into our professional life.

Matt met Tate 10 years ago at UH. Today, he works for Mariko as an instructor with the Campbell Marching Band. In his free time, he enjoys playing tuba, running, and listening to Ewa Beach by Sons of Yeshua.

Richard and Tate met in their music education cohort at UH Mānoa. They bonded through their many one on one dinners consuming anywhere from 8 to 40 free Jack in the Box tacos before symphony orchestra rehearsal. The dynamic duo started their teaching careers in Hilo as roommates, teaching at Waiākea HS and Waiākea Intermediate School. After a few years, Richard moved home to Oahu, and Tate moved home shortly after — to see about a girl — the rest, is history.

Hi, I’m Jordan! I met both Tate and Mariko at UH Mānoa while we were all studying music. I went the General Music direction and now a member of The Royal Hawaiian Band. I became closer with Tate when we were selected for the UH Chamber Brass Quintet scholarship and then Mariko during COVID when we all would Zoom call. It’s strange but COVID brought a lot of us together and I’m glad to have these special people in my life!

I am lucky enough to be friends with Mariko since high school, and am truly honored to stand by her side on such a special day! I am looking forward to celebrating her and Tate as they start this exciting new chapter of their lives together!

Known Mariko since the middle school, bandgeek days! Met Tate when she decided to date him lol. Happy for them both! Cheeee!!

Hi, I’m Vichelle! Mariko and I met each other when we first started working at HMS. We grew from coworkers, to friends, to sisters in Christ 🤍 It’s been such a blessing to see Mariko go into the woman she is today. I’m honored to walk alongside her in many seasons, especially this one. I can’t wait to see her marry her best friend 🥹

Chris was fortunate enough to be Mariko’s mentor teacher back in 2020. Though the mentorship was cut short by the pandemic, a beautiful friendship formed when they reconnected a couple years later. To Chris, Mariko is the best combination of wit, love, and humor. He is honored to stand by her side as part of the bridal party.
