Helsinki

Getting Around Town

Helsinki is a safe and walkable small city so make sure to explore, and know that you can get most places on foot. The HSL Public Transit Network is easy to use too, and you can find more details on our Travel page or their website

Things to Do & See

Sauna

Finnish Sauna culture is a big deal - and definitely something to experience during your visit. Don't worry, each of the places we recommend require a bathing suit ;). Make sure to reserve a time slot in advance on their websites.

Löyly - This is one of our favorite places in Helsinki

Allas Sea Pools

Public Markets

There are several public markets around the city where you can buy Finnish food and goods. With so many great vendors they're perfect places for finding souvenirs from local artists.

Hakaniemi Market - You have to try the Salmon Soup

Old Market Hall

Kauppatori

City Landmarks & Museums

Helsinki has tons of cool places to check out and learn about while you're in town! We've listed a few of the places we recommend finding, and we're looking forward to bringing you all to Suomenlinna for the wedding ceremony & reception!

Helsinki Cathedral

Oodi Library

Suomenlinna Fortess

Seurasaari

Amos Rex

Finnish National Gallery

Temppeliaukio Church

Day Trips

If you're in town for a few extra days and want to explore more, you can check out some of these options.

Nuuksio Park - Day Trip

Finnish National Park where you can hike, swim, and even meet reindeer.

Porvoo - Day Trip

Porvoo is located 1 hour east of Helsinki by bus. Great option for a quick day trip to see the small shops and historic buildings in "Old Porvoo". We recommend grabbing some Vanhan Porvoon ice cream.

Ferry to Tallinn - 1 to 2 Days

Hop on the 2hr ferry to Tallinn, Estonia. Check out their historic old town. If you have the time, we absolutely recommend making this a priority!

Food & Drink

There are SO many places we love to eat and drink. Here's a snapshot of some of our favorites, but feel free to reach out if you want more! Make sure to check out the Public Markets too for great snacks/drinks!

Food

Tanner - Great food and drinks, we recommend the mushroom pizza

Kappeli -Tasty Finnish lunch buffet and sit-down dinner

Way Bakery - Pasta bar, bakery, amazing natural wines

Drinks

Bier Bier - Nice beer bar with solid drink selection

Ateljee Bar - Amazing rooftop views of the city

Bar Chaplin - Cheap drinks and lots of pool tables right downtown

Trillby and Chadwick - Good luck finding this speakeasy, we've already said too much ;)

Bob's Laundry - Another great hidden gem

Bas Bas Kulma - Nicer wine bar with great food

Minne - Fancier wine bar with a decent food selection

Weather

Much like in New England, Summers in Finland are beautiful but the weather can be unpredictable.

Traveling this far North means you'll experience over 18 hours of sunlight per day! Be sure to pack sunscreen. :-)
