Nick and Taylor crossed paths before they met at the infamous Central Standard Brewing Company on a Wednesday night the fall of 2021. Taylor was there with friends and a huge group of people started showing up in kickball gear… little did she know, that kickball group included her future husband.

A few months later in January, they crossed paths again on Hinge and set up a date at Reverie Coffee Shop. They sat and talked in what is now “their booth” for two hours. A quick hug and a few hour later, the Chiefs were playing and they both went out with friends to watch. The first place Taylor went was closed so she found her way to Deanos. She texted Nick about the new spot and to her surprise, Nick was also at Deanos with friends. They bought each other drinks from across the restaurant and shut down the bar (which, in Kansas is midnight on a Sunday).

In the weeks to follow, the two saw each other several times around the Keeper of the Plains on walks to Leslie Coffee Shop which is the former coffee shop below our wedding venue. Living across the river had its perks, including walking distance to Pumphouse, where Nick introduced Taylor to a few friends from work. Taylor and Nick would walk back and forth to each other’s apartments for dinner dates, to bring over flowers and other gifts, and meet for walks. This happened for a couple of months before Taylor moved into her house.

Around this time, Taylor was preparing to be a bridesmaid in Brooke and Ben Ford’s wedding. Nick had been invited several times, but during the bachelorette weekend, Taylor told Nick that she wanted to “be official” for him to come. From then on, Nick and Taylor were officially dating.

The first Easter that Nick and Taylor were together, they went to Kansas City to meet Taylor’s family. Nick had met Cole, Taylor’s brother in law, first when he came to Wichita for a test, and Toni, Taylor’s mom, at an event for The Village. Everyone easily saw how amazing Nick is and were happy to see Taylor with someone they felt secure with as they went back to Wichita after the Easter weekend.

A few months later, Nick and Taylor were planning to go to Colorado for the 4th of July. This was right around the time, Kaitlyn was due with Hudson. Hudson, or Huddy, was born on June 24th, which was just in time for them to meet the newest family member before heading to Colorado. The 7 1/2 hour drive was ended at the Carvo residence. Taylor brought a 4-pack of “Girlfriend” from CSB, a clever way of introducing herself to Nick’s parents. This was also the beer Nick and Taylor got when they got engaged (but personally rebranded it as “Fiance” or “Future Mrs. Carvo”). Besides almost passing out on their back patio, Taylor made a winning impression both in her pickle ball game and her character.

Later in July, Nick closed on his house in College Hill. Nick and Taylor went to dinner to celebrate at Newport, where Nick asked Taylor about renting out her home. Why? To start thinking more about their future and moving in together. But we’ve got time for that.

In the months that followed, Taylor was a super fan for the kickball league Nick plays in. Every Wednesday, Taylor would cheer on Nick and beam whenever someone commented on how fast he was. Kickball and other regular hang outs were a great way for Nick and Taylor to continue to intentionally connect with friends as their relationship grew.

With a lot of thoughtful conversations, help from our friend Marcus, and a weekend reservation with a U-Haul, Taylor moved into their College Hill house in December 2022. Best. Christmas. Ever.

2023 was a year of growth, more time with friends, and the beginnings of ring shopping. Nick and Taylor talked about their intentions for their relationship soon into their time dating to stay on the same page with what the future holds. The conversation of engagement began to come up more and more. In August, around the time they had been dating for 1 1/2 years, Nick and Taylor looked at rings for the first time.

This evolved into more research, planning, and conversations. Nick and Taylor both started writing their “behind the scenes” thoughts and feelings leading up to the proposal. The times they went shopping for rings and picked the center stone, the conversations with friends who skillfully skirted the topic, and the timing of Taylor’s nail appointments where a few of the notes they kept to debrief after the proposal.

The day that Nick proposed was such a dream. They went to the farmers market, had coffee and breakfast at Reverie, and got dressed for the photo shoot Nick secretly planned. After the proposal, and many happy tears, Nick and Taylor went to CSB, where the story started several falls ago, to celebrate with some of their closest friends and family. They said “cheers” to forever then and can’t wait to officially tie the knot in October.
