The part we agree on: We met at CrossFit Felix. Theresa registered for the beginner’s class and David was her coach. And this is about where our stories start to differ.
In Theresa’s words…
After moving around for work a few times, I knew one of the most important things to do in a new place is to find friends right away. While I had never done CrossFit before, it almost seemed like a cult, and perhaps the perfect way to meet people.
I reached out to Felix and left a voicemail looking for more information, but never got a call back. (Strong customer service. 😊) I called again the morning of the first class and caught someone by the name of “Izzy”. He rambled on about how on-ramp is like driver’s training and would not stop talking. I remember trying to end the conversation multiple times so I could get back to work. That night, I walked into Felix for class and met the real-life Izzy… a loud, gregarious guy with a huge smile, and absolutely no filter. He could not have been more opposite from me. Three weeks later, I became a CrossFit Felix member, and one week after that, we were dating. (Apparently CrossFit does work!)
In David’s words…
Let me tell you all how it really happened.... in my mind.
'Twas the spring of 2016. Summer was coming and the birds were chirping. We had just started a new Beginner’s Course at Felix and the class was packed with 15 or so bright-eyed pups ready to learn about fitness. Everyone was excited to be there, but the only one thinking that she was too cool for school was this little redhead named Theresa. We did a brief introduction for everyone and then sent them all out for a quick warm up run. I had an intern working with us that month, learning the ropes. I turned to him without hesitation and stated, "did you see that little redheaded girl, I’m going to spend the rest of my life with her". His response was "you don’t get to just claim them" and I said, "That one I do, she’s gonna be with me."
Over the 3 week course, Theresa moved well, but didn’t care so much for my jokes. I tried really hard, like really really hard to get her attention, but to no avail. After the course was over, I waited for what seemed to be forever for her to sign up for a membership, just so I could see her again. But she didn’t. So I had to take the leap and send her a text. "Are you ever gonna come back in?" I asked. She said she was coming in tonight.
When she arrived, she took class and did pretty awesome. After class, I got her all squared away, signed up and paying. And once she was a member, and paying in full, I felt that I had the all clear to ask her out for drinks.
Fast forward 6 years and here we are together, just like I thought when I first saw her.
