Hi there, my name is David Lane-Smith and I hail from Mono Ontario. At the time of writing this I am a fifth year student at McMaster University studying biomedical and mechatronics engineering, but hopefully I’ll be graduated by the wedding! I’ve known Tom a total of my whole life from elementary school and church, and he’s always been one of my closest friends!

Pretty much every adventurous or crazy thing I did in my childhood was with Tom. He had the idea and always managed to peer pressure me into doing it as well! From eating worms, shooting off fireworks from our hands, or sleeping on rafts in the middle of lakes, it was never a dull moment and I cherish every single one!

Hi, my name is Steven I am from Ontario! I work in a steel factory bending metal. I have a beautiful fiancé who just happens to be Tom’s sister and a lovely step daughter! My hobbies include going to the gym, watching anime and gaming whenever I get the chance!

I met Tom in the summer of 2019 from dating his sister Emily, we got along instantly. From playing VR games with the family to wrestling at the cottage Tom and I made some great memories! One of my favourite memories is visiting Alberta for the first time and learning how to ride those Lime scooters and seeing some awesome sights! I’m so excited to be by Toms side and help him on his journey into marriage!

‘Sup!

If you know Tom, then you practically know me, as we are both engaged post-YWAM rural nerds in 5th-year electrical engineering who love reading Brandon Sanderson and have a strong sense of destruction. I enjoy music, spreadsheets, and expunging dumb facts when least expected.

Tom and I met in the 2nd year of university and hit it off right away, and I’ve shared quite a few enjoyable moments with him. I had the pleasure of chauffeuring Tom to his engagement party and forging a bakery invoice so we sneak our own cupcakes into the venue. He has also taught me the subtle art of “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”, whereby we bludgeon professors via email until they help solve our problems.

Tom and Teresa have had an incredible impact on my life, and I’m proud to stand with them on their wedding day. God bless you guys!

Ethan Martin

Hi all! My name is Ethan Martin. Thomas and I were classmates at the University of Alberta and have since become good friends. I’m currently finishing off my undergrad and looking for work while I figure out the next stage of my life. I love playing music, exploring the city with my girlfriend and generally leading an active lifestyle. I had a bit of a reputation as the guy who went to ultimate frisbee practice instead of finishing his assignments, but those days are behind me now.

It must’ve been week two or three of my second year classes at the U of A, and I was on the hunt for friends. I had seen Thomas’s unthreatening face around a few classes before and I had some delusion that his name was also Ethan. Seeing that as a fun and easy conversation starter, I marched right up to him before Introductory Circuits and tested my theory. Much to my dismay, his name was not Ethan, but he did offer me the seat beside him. Since then, Thomas has become many things to me - A chaotic lab partner, a horrible distraction during lectures and a confusingly persistent challenger of my worldview - but perhaps most importantly, one of my closest friends. Every time he brought up his girlfriend, Teresa, I noticed how his demeanor softened - like the mere mention of her brought him comfort. Once I met her, I understood why. I’ve never met two people who are so infatuated with each other’s company, that they seem giddy just being in the same place. I’m ecstatic they’re getting married and so happy to be a part of it.

As Teresa's older brother, I had the same objective as any older brother: eliminate the new boyfriend before things get out of hand. Anyone with sense would have run off with their tail between their legs in no time flat. Unfortunately, I didn't include the Thomas factor in my calculations. Try as I might, I just couldn't quite get Thomas out of my hair.

Eventually, I came to the only conclusion possible - if you can't beat him, join him! I am honoured and excited to be one of Thomas' groomsmen. Although, I might just have a few last minute tricks up my sleeve...

Billy Miedema

Hi, my name is Billy. I'm Tom's older brother, and as such, spent a great deal of time terrorizing Tom as we were growing up - but that was simply me fulfilling my age-old brotherly duty. I've done quite a few things over the years - tree-planting, fruit-picking in Australia, driving for UPS, studying forestry, computer science, and even joining the French foreign legion for a time. It's been difficult to always stay in touch well, even with family, through some of these seasons. Inevitably when Tom and I both end up home though, I always enjoy playing a game of Halo, Minecraft, or some other new game with Tom.

It is my great privledge to stand with my brother on his wedding day. It's remarkable how quickly time passes, and how it doesn't seem so long ago that all four of us siblings were out getting bloody noses on the trampoline or catching frogs in the pond. The time goes on, and while we still have our quibbles, family is forever. I couldn't be happier for Tom as he starts out in this exiciting chapter and I also couldn't be more pleased at how our family has grown to include a new member (although, she still has to pass the frog-catching initiation bonding experience with all of us).
