It was a mid-September Friday night in 2018. The location was The Sticky Wicket Bar - games room. Tiegan notices Sam amongst a group of guys that were sitting around a table. Tiegan thought Sam was kind of cute, and tried to catch his attention. Sam did not notice, was too busy drinking with the guys. Noticing that there wasn't a single girl with them in the group, Tiegan figured they must all have girlfriends. She later learned that was not the case. Later in the evening, after a few more failed attempts to get Sam to notice her, Tiegan saw Sam with a friend (whom she would later come to know as Gavin) just chatting and drinking at the tip of the main bar in Sticky. In a moment alcohol-induced confidence, Tiegan grabbed a friend from her group and walked up to Sam and friend (Gavin). The plan went sideways when Tiegans friend Maddy went up to Sam first, so Tiegan made a quick switcheroo to make sure she didn't miss her chance, and introduced herself to Sam.

For their first date, Sam attempted to take Tiegan to a movie. When trying to buy tickets at the theatre, Sam realized that he looked at the times wrong and that the movie actually wasn't playing. Tiegan and Sam have never been back to a movie theatre together since. Needing a quick back-up plan, and knowing that Tiegan was still relatively new to Victoria, Sam thought of a unique little lookout spot and drove her there to watch the sunset.

A few months later (a few more than Tiegan would have liked) Sam took her back to the same lookout spot and asked her to be his girlfriend. And then on a random Thursday in October of 2023, Sam picked Tiegan up from work, and instead of driving to the grocery store like they were supposed to, drove her up to this same spot and pulled out a ring.
