What do I need to know if I'm traveling to the area from out of town?

We have a great primer on traveling to the Washington DC & Northern Virginia area available on our Travel page.

Have you reserved blocks of rooms at one or more hotels?

We will be reserving hotel room blocks shortly. We invite our guests to book their stay through our room blocks in either the [INSERT HOTEL 1] or the [INSERT HOTEL 2] in Gainesville, VA. Please see the Travel page for more details and a link to reserve rooms in our block.

What is the easiest way to get to and from the wedding venue?

The easiest and safest way to get to and from the venue is to take a ride on our complimentary shuttle service! We have arranged for a shuttle that will transport guests from the [INSERT HOTEL HERE] to Poplar Springs Manor prior to the ceremony and will then return guests to the hotel once the reception has concluded. Please see the Travel page for more details on the shuttle service.

Is there parking available at the wedding venue?

There are a limited number of parking spaces available at Poplar Springs (about 40 in total); however, if you are not staying at the Poplar Springs Inn, we highly recommend that you take advantage of our complimentary shuttle service detailed above for both logistical and safety reasons. The roads in the vicinity of Poplar Springs are very narrow and winding, and the area is known to have a thriving deer population. We want to ensure all our guests arrive and return home safely.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes! All of our planned events at Poplar Springs Manor are wheelchair/limited-mobility accessible. Additionally, a handful of ADA-accessible rooms are available for guests planning to stay with us in the Poplar Springs Inn. If you have mobility concerns, please let us know and we'll put you in touch with the appropriate Poplar Springs staff who can answer any specific questions.

Will your wedding be indoors or outdoors?

We plan to conduct the ceremony outdoors along the tree-lined drive, with the reception to follow indoors in the Grand Glass Ballroom. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony would be relocated inside the Stone Dining Room.

What health and safety measures will be in place?

As we've all learned over the last few years, it's important to consider public health and safety when celebrating in large groups. While we don't anticipate any specific pandemic-related measures being in place for our event, we do take such measures seriously, and we encourage our guests to do so as well. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID or are otherwise unwell, please help protect the health and safety of our other guests by taking the appropriate actions (wearing a mask, physically distancing, and staying home, if necessary). We consider it a sign of respect in doing so.

Attire & Dress Code

What is the dress code for your wedding?

Cocktail attire. We suggest that men wear a suit or dress shirt with a tie and women wear a midi- or knee-length dress or dressy separates.

Are there any colors or styles you'd prefer me to wear?

While optional, we encourage you to join us in dressing in our jewel-toned wedding colors - - burgundy, emerald, navy blue, grape, and deep red are all included. We think these colors provide a lovely contrast to the oranges, yellows, and golds of our local fall flora.

What is the weather like in the area?

For early November in Northern Virginia, the daily temperature historically averages in the low-60s during the day, with the evening temperatures falling to the low- to mid-40s. In recent years, daily temperatures have often peaked into the mid-70s. The humidity at this point in the year is nearly always low.

Plus-Ones & Children

Am I allowed to bring a plus one?

Please review your invitation for specific instructions regarding plus ones.

Am I allowed to bring my children?

Yes! We are thrilled to be hosting a kid-friendly wedding, and we aim to have some fun goodies and activities for your little ones to help us celebrate. When you RSVP, please indicate the ages of your children so we can plan these goodies/activities accordingly.

Menu & Dietary Restrictions

What type of food will be served at your wedding?

For the cocktail hour, we'll be serving a combination of stationed and passed appetizers. For dinner, there will be a buffet with a selection of beef, chicken, and vegetarian dishes, along with a salad and bread & butter.

Will there be meal options for guests with dietary restrictions or allergies?

Yes! We plan to have options for our vegetarian and gluten-free guests. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies when you RSVP, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

What's the drink situation?

In addition to a wide selection of non-alcoholic drinks (sodas, ginger ale, water, and a hot coffee and tea station), an open bar will be available to our guests. Poplar Springs will provide us with bartenders throughout the evening; however, no alcohol is provided by the venue. Instead, the bar is stocked directly by us beforehand, and we intend to provide an ample selection of beer, wine, spirits, and mixers for your enjoyment. However, once the booze are gone, that's it!

Photos, Videos, & Other Techie Things

Am I allowed to take photos/videos at your wedding?

It's no secret that Tim and Ollie are both tech nerds! We are looking into some creative ways to incorporate cutting-edge technology into our wedding. However, for the wedding ceremony, we ask our guests to be fully present with us in the moment. Please keep all personal devices (phones, tablets, cameras, video games, AI assistants, superhero suits) turned off during the ceremony. Once the ceremony has concluded, there will be several opportunities for personal photos during the cocktail hour and/or reception.

Can I post wedding photos on social media?

Yes! If you wish to post photos on social media, please be sure to tag them with our official wedding hashtag of [INSERT HASHTAG] so that we can find them!

Will the professional photos/videos of your wedding be accessible/available?

Absolutely! Our professionally captured photos and videos will be available to our wedding guests. We will update this website after the wedding to provide access links to the photo and video collection.

Wedding Registry & Gifts

Could you give me a link to your wedding registry?

Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for! If you would like to honor us with a gift, we have developed a list on our Registry page:

Where should we bring/send our wedding gift?

We're thrilled that you're coming to celebrate with us—and that's the best gift of all! However, if you would like to honor us with a gift, you can have it delivered to our home in Brambleton, VA. Please refer to your wedding invitation for our complete address. A wedding card box will also be at our reception. NOTE: Some registries will show our address as Ashburn, VA. Don't worry, this is okay! Our ZIP code was recently renamed, and some websites haven't updated to the new name yet.
