On the corner of Agate and Park Avenue where the ferry bridges to the peninsula, fate set the stage for a love story to unfold. At their first date, four days after Valentine’s Day, Trevor naturally arrived first, being the planner of the two. Kelvin, approaching like the bachelor, met Trevor at the restaurant door, kissing him instantly. They sat outside, the heater warding off the brisk winter evening.
Trevor was moved by Kelvin’s warmth, realizing he hadn’t encountered someone so genuine in quite a long time. As they discussed their families and their significance, Trevor admired Kelvin’s caring nature towards his loved ones. It was this shared love for family that made Trevor realize Kelvin was the one for him. Kelvin, in turn, adored Trevor’s giddy and happy energy, finding balance and complementarity in their connection. He particularly cherished Trevor’s deep listening and unwavering opinions, refusing to let Kelvin’s stubborn Taurus nature dominate.
Time flew, and the end of the night arrived quickly. Not wanting it to end, they strolled along Balboa Island, dreaming about all the homes they passed. At the night’s end, Kelvin offered to drive Trevor home because as many of you know, Trevor doesn’t drive.
The pieces aligned in what seemed to be fate with these two meeting just before the pandemic, which may otherwise not have happened at all once the world shut down temporarily.
When Kelvin first met Trevor’s parents, they enjoyed a meal near the water and took a walk together, a regular activity of theirs. Trevor, uncertain about getting their feet wet from the tide, watched as his mom removed her shoes in a carefree manner and played in the water, eliciting laughter and joy from everyone.
During a flight home from Minnesota that had to make an emergency landing in Eugene, OR, they faced 19 hours of delays due to the Olympic trials and a lack of available hotels or rental cars. This was a memory they surely would never forget and one of their first opportunities to practice patience as a team through the setbacks life presents.
Their first Christmas together occurred during the pandemic lockdown, preventing them from seeing their families. Holding hands, they walked through Christmas lights, keeping the magic alive. Though there were times when pandemic restrictions kept them apart, they maintained the spark and excitement through communication and creativity.
Over time, as their love deepened, Kelvin knew Trevor was the one. Trevor's adept handling of disagreements and their alignment in life priorities, work ethics, and family values impressed Kelvin. Although it took time for Kelvin to grasp the depth Trevor offered, once he did, he knew Trevor was the man he wanted to spend his life with.
Their morning routine, sharing a quiet moment embraced in a hug where everything stands still before the day begins, nurtures their connection and love.
During a trip to Hawaii, at dinner, Kelvin expressed his desire to capture the moment with a photo. They had friends on the way, and it was raining, so naturally, Trevor was worried about his hair. When Kelvin finally convinced Trevor to step slightly outside for a photo, he knelt on one knee and looking into his eyes, said, “It’s been a long time - three years. Thank you for making me believe in love again. I know this isn’t how I planned it, but will you marry me?” An emotional yes poured from Trevor’s mouth. The two walked hand in hand out into the rain. The two walked hand in hand into the rain. The sun peered through the clouds as they walked, marking the magic they both held together now and into their future.
