Where should I fly to ?

Recommend to first fly into an international airport Milan Linate (LIN) or Frankfurt International (FRA). From either of these two airports take a short connecting flight to Florence Aeorporto Amerigo Vespucci, which is a train or drive away from the Villa. Important to note: Passport will be needed, give yourself enough layover time between when you land in Europe and any connecting flights to go through customs.

how easy is it to rent a car in Italy?

Very easy! Italians do drive on the same side of the road as we do in the US and also the drivers seat is in the same location. Italian drivers can be a little crazy in the cities, but if you go slow and pay attention no need to stress. Roads are nice and google maps works wonders in Italy.. Airports will have car rentals. You can rent a car in Italy with a US driver's license. However, you also need to have an International driver's Permit. You can get this from AAA online for $15.

what about the phones?

If you have an iphone, you can connect to wifi and send imessages, and make facetime audio calls with other iPhone customers even when international. However I do recommend getting some sort of international data phone plan, so connect with your provider to see what they offer. It is good to have data for travel days in the case wifi is spotty.

Taking the train from Florence to the villa , is it possible?

Yes, the train station in Florence is Firenza Santa Maria Novella. The closest station to the villa is Vicchio (a small tuscan town) which is all in all a 1 hour and 15 min train ride. From the Vicchio station, the villa is a 6 minute cab. You can purchase tickets at the station but if you are a planner, want to check the options, and want something ahead of time trenitalia site is https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html make sure to book a ticket with just the train as there are some train/bus combination tickets
