Jon and I met at the Rush Oak Park Emergency Department. He saw me during our morning huddle when he was a new nurse and I was a veteran tech. He creepily stared at me (or more specifically, a particular part of me lol) while I was blissfully unaware and just trying to stay awake at that god forsaken hour. Over the next several months we bonded over our incredibly dark sense of humor, the game "Among Us", and the ED's copious amounts of blood, piss, shit, and vomit ;)

I would look ahead at the schedule to see if I was working with him and would pick up shifts on the days he was there. I'd follow him around to help discharge patient's, start his IV lines and labs, and he'd come to my rescue when drunken or combative patients would try to take swing at me. Jon would talk to some of the other techs and blurted out to them about how he would absolutely lock me down if he could. One day, Lizzie and Ashley (a couple of techs) pulled me aside into the store room and asked me if I liked Jon and I said nothing. My face said it all - the biggest shit-eating grin. It was the happiest the two of them had seen me in a long time.

Jon and I had planned a trip to Banff and Glacier National Parks during one of my breaks from nursing school. I had guessed already that he would propose during this trip but didn't know when exactly he would do it. Each day we were in Banff, his proposal plans got ruined by weather or other extenuating circumstances. Finally he had one day with a solid proposal plan. We were hiking up the side of a mountain when an instense lighting and rainstorm broke out. We were getting soaked and all of our belongings (including the wooden ring box) was getting ruined. We took shelter on a steep hill under trees and right outside the outhouses. Not the most ideal circumstances lol but he proposed to me right there with the smell of the sewage in the air ;) BEST. PROPOSAL. EVER.
