Indian weddings have pre-wedding events in addition to the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. These include events such as Mendhi, Garba/Sangeet, and Manglik Prasango. Invitations to these events will be listed when RSVPing.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
There are several different types of Indian outfits that can be worn to events (women - sari, lehenga choli, punjabi; men - sherwani/kurta). However, guests are certainly not expected to wear Indian attire.
For the Mendhi, we recommend semi-formal Indian or Western attire in shades of green.
For the Manglik Prasango, we recommend semi formal Indian or Western attire in shades of yellow.
For the Garba/Sangeet and Wedding Ceremony, we encourage colorful Indian attire or semiformal/formal attire.
For the Reception, attire will be formal Indian-Western.
WHERE CAN I PURCHASE INDIAN ATTIRE?
If you are in the Chicago area, Devon is a great place to visit. Many online websites also sell Indian attire. Some suggestions include: indya.com; utsavfashion.com; kalkifashion.com; cbaazar.com; lashkaraa.com Amazon.com (search “men’s kurta” or “women’s lehenga”).
WHAT KIND OF FOOD WILL THERE BE?
There will be a wide variety of dishes with vegetarian options at each of the events. The food will be served buffet style, so that guests will have the option to choose what they’d like to eat. Please let us know if you have any food restrictions or allergies.
CAN I BRING PLUS ONE(S)?
We appreciate your enthusiasm for our wedding! However, unless indicated on your invite/rsvp system, we will not be able to accommodate for additional guests.
CAN I BRING MY KIDS?
While we love your little ones, we are only able to accommodate children who we have named in your invite or personally specified to you! Thank you for understanding!
