Q + A

So, why Saugatuck?

This is the question we constantly get asked! The venue & aesthetic of our wedding day is really important to us, and we felt that Michigan perfectly captured our vision. Liz's aunt & uncle have a lake house nearby & we go up at least once per year. Downtown Saugatuck is such a quaint little lake town and we just absolutely love it there! We happened to randomly stumble across this venue on Instagram, which had just been built at the time, and instantly fell in love. We hope that during our wedding weekend, you will fall in love with Saugatuck too!

How far is Saugatuck from Chicago?

From downtown & the southwest suburbs, it's around 2 hours. From the northwest suburbs, it's around 3 hours.

Where is the closest airport?

The closest airport to Saugatuck, MI is Muskegon (MKG) Airport which is 40 miles away. Other nearby airports include Grand Rapids (GRR - 50 miles), Chicago Midway (MDW - 150 miles), & Chicago O'Hare (ORD) (164 miles).

Are the ceremony & reception at the same location?

Yes! The beautiful greenhouse ceremony space is just steps away from the building where our reception will take place!

Will the wedding be inside or outside?

While we are hopeful that we will have beautiful weather for our wedding weekend, it won't ruin our day! The ceremony will take place in the covered greenhouse & our reception is entirely indoors. The cocktail hour is expected to take place outside on the grounds, weather pending!

Do I need my ID for the bar?

Yes! Our venue requires that their bartenders check ALL guest's ID's before being served for the night. Please make sure you have this with you!

What is the dress code?

We ask that our guests dress in formal / cocktail attire. A formal wedding dress code is slightly less formal than a black-tie event, and in general, it tends to have fewer specifications. Women can get away with a nicer cocktail dress, and for men, tuxedos are not required. Cocktail wedding attire is slightly less formal than black-tie and black-tie optional, tuxes and floor-length gowns are not required.

Are our kids invited?

While we would love to celebrate with all of our little cousins & kiddos in our lives, we ask that your little ones stay home & you enjoy a night or weekend away as this is an adult-only event.

Is there a shuttle service to / from the hotels & venue?

Yes! Please head to the "Travel & Transportation" tab of our site as it contains crucial information regarding transportation

Can I park at Ivy House?

Yes! Ivy House has a ton of free parking available just steps away from the venue. To ensure the safety of our guests, Ivy House encourages those who are drinking to leave their cars overnight. This will not result in any charges or towing.

Is there an after party?

For our guests who want to continue the party after the reception with us, we will be heading to Coral Gables until 2 AM! Coral Gables is a late-night restaurant & bar that turns into a nightclub, with a karaoke bar downstairs & beach bar outside on the sand! We are covering admission for the first 100 guests. Everyone after that will need to bring $5 cash for the cover. *Transportation will be provided to the after-party for anyone who would like to join us! From the after-party, transportation will only be provided to those staying at the hotel block. If you are not staying at a hotel block, please see the transportation page of our website to ensure you can get home safely. If you choose to stay in downtown Saugatuck you can likely walk home from the after party, but please plan ahead!
