Plazuela de la Rogativa
Caleta de las Monjas, San Juan, P.R., 00901
Plaza La Rogativa is one of the historic locations in Old San Juan. La Rogativa is a famous bronze statue located in the Plazuela de la Rogativa on Caleta de las Monjas near La Puerta de San Juan. Derived from the verb rogar, meaning to plea or to supplicate, a rogativa is a procession making a plea to God for help. British troops, led by Lieutenant-General Sir Ralph Abercromby, took control of the city by naval blockade on April 30, 1797. The desperate governor of San Juan ordered a “rogativa.” The women, led by the bishop, marched through the streets that night. They started at the Cathedral. They sang hymns, carried torches and bells, and prayed for their city’s deliverance. The British mistook the sights and sounds as evidence of the arrival of reinforcements. Considering themselves to be outnumbered, Abercrombie’s fleet abandoned the city promptly. There are four bronze statues pay tribute to the efforts of the townspeople and their Bishop. Lindsay Daen of New Zealand completed the statue in 1971. It stands 12-feet high in front of an old sentry box and a beautiful view of San Juan Bay.

Níspero Tree
In the 1990s, El Convento underwent a $14 million renovation by a team led by Hugh Andrews and Jorge Rosselló, who also remodeled other hotels such as La Concha, and the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel. It was rechristened as Hotel El Convento, a 4-star small luxury hotel with five stories, a central courtyard where a 300-year old Níspero fruit tree still stands, a pool and Jacuzzi on the fourth-floor terrace, and great views of Old San Juan, maintaining the same high standard of luxury and style.

Reception

Salón Campeche
Salón Campeche is the reason why Wanda and Angel decided to hold their reception here. In 1986 Wanda visited this historic hotel for the first time and there was a wedding being held in Salon Campeche, she was mesmerized by the beauty of the room. Many years went by and she never forgot this vision. On their first trip to Puerto Rico as a couple, Wanda and Angel stayed at the hotel. Wanda then told Angel that her dream was to someday get married in this historic place. When Angel proposed part of his proposal was to get married in Hotel El Convento and this is how the fairytale begins.
