There are SO many things to do in the Cary/Raleigh area. If you are traveling from out of town and have some extra time- here are a few places we love to visit.
Chanticleer Cafe & Bakery is within walking distance from our home in Cary- it's become a staple in our daily lives! We love to walk here on Saturday mornings to get a quick breakfast and some coffees before continuing our walk down the greenway.
Everything they offer is delicious but we usually opt for iced vanilla lattes, sausage egg and cheese croissants and the cream puffs when available. We hope you try them out and enjoy them as much as we do!
The Downtown Cary Park is a fairly new addition to our town and we couldn't be more excited about it! It's located right next to the Cary Regional library, has a dog park, coffee shop, and bar located within. On sunny days you can find us here strolling the sky walk with our Bark Bar beverages, people watching from the stone amphitheater or making friends with all of the dogs.
If you have time to visit the Downtown Cary Park there is a parking garage located behind the Cary Regional library as well as street parking available within the surrounding neighborhood- be sure to read the signs and try not to block any residential mailboxes!
In the mood for some GOOD Chinese food? Located just down the road from the Downtown Cary Park is Tai Pei 101- one of our favorite dinner spots. The scallion pancakes are a personal favorite but we've never ordered something we didn't love! (Not surprising, since they've won The News & Observer's "Best Chinese Restaurant" 6 years in a row!)
Parking here can be tough- start with the adjoining parking lot and back street/alleyway parking and if you don't get lucky, you'll find additional parking just past the train tracks.
Don't forget to grab a fortune cookie on your way out!
Oh- Where do we begin with this one? The Raleigh Times has been a staple in our lives since we both moved to Raleigh some 10 years ago. Its a cult classic. Located in the heart of Downtown Raleigh you'll find this homey bar/restaurant with the best french fries and ranch dressing combo in the Triangle (trust me, I would know). Come here for a salad, a burger, some chicken strips or go next door and get some coffee at The Morning Times.
This restaurant has FOUR bars- three downstairs, one upstairs. Typically you'll find us at the last bar annoying our favorite bartenders.
Pro-tip: They dont have hostesses to seat people just walk in a find a spot you like.
Downtown Raleigh has several museums, but the Museum of Natural Science has always been our favorite- and it's free! It's a great way to cool off during the summer and to learn something new about animals or local ecosystems. Since we've been dating we've really enjoyed attending the museum's special exhibits. We've seen all sorts of cool things- rainbow bugs and fish, creepy crawlies, pollinators and dinosaurs that aren't actually dinosaurs!
If you love fresh produce (or bread, or lemonade, or plants, or really ANYTHING) the State Farmer's Market is a great place to spend your Saturday morning!
Pro-tip: There's plenty of parking available, but don't come here if you aren't good in a crowd. The farmer's market can be a hoppin' place!
Did you know that NC State University has a dairy farm? Now you do! As part of their nationally recognized food science program, the university has over 300 cows on campus who work diligently to provide the Wolfpack of NC State and beyond with some crazy delicious ice cream.
Enjoy the sunshine and some Wolftracks from the large back porch of the creamery while you watch the cows that helped make your ice cream graze in the fields.
This one hits close to home- or maybe just the hotel you're staying at. La Victoria is our go-to place for tacos and with it's proximity to our venue and its extensive margarita menu, there's no wonder La Victoria made it to this list.
We first visited La Victoria because we had a coupon for it- and have been back too many times to count. We were pleasantly surprised by the service and atmosphere but even more surprised by the enchiladas and the little lights they put in your margaritas.
We are so excited for you to come visit us in Cary/Raleigh- it's the place we've both called home for so long- and we are beyond excited to start our married lives here.
It's where we went to college and it's where we met all of our friends. It's where we met each other and where we fell in love and it's where we will live for many years to come.
We hope you try out some of our favorite spots and we can't wait to hear how it went!
