There is something to be said about attending an Arctic Wedding. There are very few people that have experienced a destination wedding that is not known to be hot, sandy, or filled with palm trees. An Arctic wedding would in fact be the opposite. It is cold, windy at times, and there is a distinguishable end to the tree line where there is no way a palm tree would have a chance to grow. While it may be cold and does not hold the same amenities of that of another wedding location, warmth is still felt. The warmth of a whole community being invited to celebrate two people, the warmth of a new log being placed on a fire to heat the cabin, the warmth of delicious traditional foods, and the warmth of Willow and Cale’s excitement that you have travelled a long distance and are joining them to celebrate.
We would love to see as many of our family and friends there as possible, so our invites are being shared to all our friends and family that mean the most to us. We want you to experience one of Canada’s most beautiful places where the landscape is untouched, the people are friendly, the culture is unique, and is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The wedding will take place on April 20th, 2023. On the 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th there is an event hosted by the town of Inuvik and surrounding areas called the Muskrat Jamboree. This event sees all of Inuvik and surrounding areas come together for games, traditional dances, music, as well as skidoo, and dog sled races. This event follows our wedding which we thought would make it more eventful time for everyone in the North!
There are two excellent ways to get to Inuvik, the first is the most adventurous and cheaper if travelling with more then one; which is by vehicle. The drive includes many great views, wildlife, breathtaking mountains, lakes, as well as unique places to see along the drive. If driving from Saskatchewan the best route can be found on google maps which goes through Edmonton, Fort Nelson British Columbia, Whitehorse Yukon and then up the dempster highway until arriving in Inuvik. These three stops is where you will have to overnight, because to get to each entail a full 10 - 12 hour drive. The dempster highway can be unpredictable at times so it would be best to drive an SUV or a truck and be sure to bring a tire repair kit, extra blankets, and extra gas to be prepared if any emergencies (hopefully not) would happen.
The second mode of travel which is a more direct, and faster would be to travel by air. Canadian North is the airline that travels to Inuvik from Edmonton. If flying the full way you very likely will need to fly to Edmonton the day before your indented arrival date. You then will need accommodations to overnight in Edmonton to catch the once a day 7am flight to Inuvik the next morning.
It would be a great privilege to have you here to celebrate our wedding, we would be ecstatic to see you. There is a lot to be said about an Arctic wedding, come join us and have your say on what Arctic weddings are all about!
