These are some of our favorite things to do around LA! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
LA is a truly expansive city and this just barely scratches the surface of dining out here. If there is a type of restaurant you want to try and don’t see it on here please feel free to reach out to us directly as we can offer many other suggestions.
Joy (Highland Park)-
Our local Taiwanese eatery. Everything here is delicious and very affordable.
Villa’s Tacos (Highland Park)-
By some Villa’s is considered to be the best taco in LA and we wouldn’t totally disagree. Lines can get long but are well worth the wait.
Kumquat Coffee (Highland Park)-
Best coffee in LA. Located in Highland Park just down the street from your favorite bagel shop (Belle's). Whether you like cold brew, espresso, lattes, or something a little fancier - this is the place to go. Be warned - on the weekends, the line might get a little long (still worth it! lots of cute doggos in line to wait with).
Marisco Jalisco (Boyle Heights)-
Mexican seafood truck in Boyle Heights. Famous for their shrimp dorados (fried tacos) and aguachile. Both are a must eat.
Clark Street Diner (Franklin Village)-
A modern-ish take on a classic diner run by a local bakery. We’ve eater here quite a few times and have never been disappointed.
Rosty (Highland Park)-
Peruvian restaurant in Highland Park. We love their rotisserie chicken and the trio of dipping sauces that come with it.
Musso and Frank (Hollywood) -
A MUST. Old school Italian chophouse right in the middle of the Hollywood walk of fame. While we would normally say avoid Hollywood like the plague this is my one exception. Steaks, shrimp cocktail, martinis and so much history.
Damon's (Glendale)-
The only remaining Tiki style restaurant in LA. Located in Glendale, Damon’s has been around since the 1950’s. Food is steaks, chops, bbq and a little bit of everything else. Now, we can’t say the food here is amazing but it's definitely still iconic and a few Mai Tai’s or Chee Chee’s will make everything a lot better.
Philippe's (DTLA)-
Inventor of the French dip sandwich located on the outskirts of Chinatown. Old school and absolutely delicious. Whatever you settle on just make sure to ask for your sandwich double dipped and when you get to your table apply some of their hot mustard to clear your sinuses (watch out it’s REALLY HOT).
Quarter Sheets Pizza (Echo Park)-
Square Sicilian style pies expertly done. When eating here or picking food up you must order desert. Co-owner Hannah Ziskin is one of the best pastry chefs in the US. Yael's favorite cake is the Princess Cake - grab a slice if you can (and if you get two, Yael will gladly accept the second).
Bub and Grandma’s (Glassel Park)-
No doubt Bub’s makes the best bread in the city. Their restaurant is tristate Italian deli meets jewish deli plus killer pastries.
Park’s BBQ (Koreatown)-
Our favorite Korean BBQ in the city.
Langer’s Delicatessen (DTLA)-
The best jewish deli in LA, no questions asked. The #19 is one of the most iconic sandwiches this city has to offer and if it wasn’t a fast track to heart disease I would eat it everyday.
Italia Deli (Agoura Hills)-
Located in Agoura Hills (near Yael’s parents house) this is a great no frills Italian deli. Just make sure to get your sandwich on a hard roll.
Sushi Karen (Pasadena)-
Omakase sushi in a strip mall in Pasadena. Run by a husband and wife and like literally no one else. It is one of the most unique and intimate sushi places in LA. It is not about decor its all about sushi
Columbo’s Italian Steakhouse (Eagle Rock)-
Our local old school eatery. I’m not gonna say the food here is good by any means but the vibes are divine. This keeps us coming back fairly often.
We aren’t particularly big drinkers but here are our favorite local watering holes
Highland Park Brewery (Chinatown)-
Large brewery located on the outskirts of Chinatown. They have great beer and stellar food.
Walt’s (Eagle Rock)-
A quirky bar with beer/wine, pinball and hot dogs. An Eagle Rock icon.
Capri Club (Eagle Rock)-
Newer aperitif bar in Eagle Rock. I would avoid going during “peak hours” because crowds and waits can get a lil wild.
Cornerstone Wellness (Eagle Rock)-
Our small local dispensary. Knowledgable and kind individuals. I have truly never found a better dispensary in the city.
Vidiots (Eagle Rock)-
Vidiots is a video rental/movie theatre in Eagle Rock. They show a lot of older movies and cult classics. The sound and picture quality is fantastic and its quickly become one of our favorite places to go.
Bob Baker Marionette Theatre (Highland Park)-
Good for all ages. Bob Baker relocated to Highland Park about 4 years ago after 60+ years in Echo Park. Puppets are kinda creepy but also really cool.
Huntington Gardens (San Marino)-
Massive botanical gardens located in San Marino. One could truly spend all day here walking around all the grounds and checking out all the fauna and flora.
Descanso Gardens (La Canada)-
A smaller botanical gardens located in La Canada. Not as large as Huntington but just as special.
South Pasadena Farmer’s Market -
The quaintest and cutest farmers market. Every Thursday
Grand Central Market (DTLA)-
Grand central market is an open air market turned food hall in DTLA. Lots of good food vendors.
Disneyland (Anaheim)-
I mean, Disneyland is just really fun.
Eaton Canyon (Altadena)-
easy, 4mi hike in the hills of Altadena. Nice 60 ft waterfall at the end of it.
LA Zoo (Griffith Park)-
We’ve both been coming to this zoo our entire lives and it holds a very special place in our hearts.
