Our Wedding

Spencer and Zaynah both swiped right on Bumble in early 2020. As Zaynah would agree: hexagons are the best-agons! Not long after the two matched, they went on their first date at a pizza and ice cream parlor in between their two campuses. Spencer and Zaynah have shared pizza and/or ice cream every February 25th since then.

The Beginning

Shortly after their second date, the Covid-19 pandemic sent Zaynah and Spencer home for lockdown. On his drive home Spencer called his mom. He told her that while he didn’t mind leaving campus, he was sad because there was this girl he really liked and he wouldn’t be able to see her again. She asked, ‘why don’t you just call her?’ So he did. Despite being hundreds of miles away from each other, they began talking more frequently as their feelings and friendship grew. By the summertime they logged almost 30 hours each week on FaceTime. They talked about life or watched Avatar the Last Airbender on Netflix party. Oftentimes, they’d simply just exist together, content to enjoy each other’s company in silence. By the time the fall semester began they had only seen each other in person a total of 4 times. Yet they had already said I love you and were dreaming of how lovely life could be if they spent theirs together.

Going the [long] Distance

After an academic year unlike any other Spencer and Zaynah earned their undergraduate degrees in spring of 2021. After graduation the couple spent a few weeks touring national parks in the southwest before parting ways once again. Zaynah headed to California while Spencer began his work in Peru. This time it was thousands, not hundreds of miles between them. While no strangers to long distance, it still sucked. Zaynah decided to join the same nonprofit and joined Spencer in Peru at the beginning of 2022. Seven months, seven countries, and countless amazing experiences later the couple returned to the US unsure of what would come next. In 2023 they made Chicago their home where they get to enjoy the city life while being close to family and, of course, the Packers. In August 2024 Spencer proposed at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Spoiler Alert: Zaynah said yes.

Something nice but functional. Please keep in mind that there will be bocce, bowling, and dancing. At the end of the day it’s a party. Zaynah learned the challenges of bowling in a long non stretchy dress at her 8th birthday party. Don’t wear that. Learn from her mistakes.
