Q + A
What currency do I need?
Always best to have pesos on hand. The larger stores in Merida will accept credit cards. It is best to contact your bank prior to travel, and advise them you will be visiting Mexico so they do not block any charges. ATMs are available in the neighboring town of Acanceh and throughout Merida. We also recommend checking what your banks foreign transaction fees are and suggest using a card that doesn't have any.
Are you doing plus ones?
Since this is a small destination wedding, we do have limited seating and cannot accommodate additional guests. If you have a plus one they will be included on your invite!
Is it safe?
The city of Merida is written about internationally for its safety and is considered not only one of the safest cities in Mexico but also in all of the Americas. The surrounding villages are quiet and peaceful. Hacienda Sac Chich states "We have never had any problems in Sac Chich or while traveling throughout the Yucatan"
Is it safe to drive in Mexico?
Yes, especially in the Yucatan. Adhere to the rules of the road as you would anywhere. The highway between Cancun and Merida is well paved and marked and the speed limit is 90kmh. Side roads between villages are usually paved and are a safe adventure. On every road except highways you will encounter the speed bumps called ‘topes’, so always be aware of these as you enter and exit towns.
Can I drink tap water?
No. Recommendation is to use bottled water for brushing teeth as well so please be mindful when showering to avoid getting the water in your mouth or eyes.
Do I need an international drivers license to drive a rental?
Not here in Mexico! They will ask for your passport and drivers license to allow you to rent a car
What is the weather like this time of year?
Cool and dry. Highs this time of year average 87 with lows of 63 and minimal rain during January.
What is the dress code?
Black Tie Optional
Do I need a passport?
YES!! Please also be sure to pay attention to expiration dates, as to travel to Mexico your passport cannot expire within 6 months of travel (confirm with your airline)
