A cenote is a natural pit, or sinkhole, resulting when a collapse of limestone bedrock exposes groundwater. Mayan culture considers these spots spiritual openings to the underworld! Take a drive to one of the many cenotes found in the Yucatan and go for a swim! There are several tours on Viator that you can experience these as well. This website has a list of many of the cenotes and where they are found!
Visit a Mayan ruin such as Chichen Itza, Uxmal and Dzibilchaltun! An 1.5 hour drive from Merida will take you back over 1000 yrs to Chichen Itza, one of the greatest Mayan centers of the Yucatan peninsula! You can find tours via Viator and recommendations on the link below.
