Be sure to get a passport! If you already have one, be sure it won't expire within 3-6 months from the date of travel, as many countries will not allow a person to travel with a passport that is close to expiring because if an emergency or unexpected delay were to cause you to stay longer, you might be trapped with an expired passport.

Check your phone plan! Some phones may include an international phone plan or temporary add-on option for a trip. Check with your carrier and see what options you may have! Additionally, Whatsapp is a phone app that can be used with wifi connection to call and text if you do not have a data plan. But, a data plan for at least one phone in every party is highly recommended so you can find locations and contact people in case you get lost or any issues arise.
