Brookgreen Gardens is a sculpture garden and wildlife preserve, located just south of Murrells Inlet, in South Carolina. The 9,100-acre property includes several themed gardens featuring American figurative sculptures, the Lowcountry Zoo, and trails through several ecosystems in nature reserves on the property.
The Hammock Shops Village is home to the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock, where you can still view the weavers. Spend your day browsing everything from fashionable clothing and shoes to handcrafted collectibles and jewelry, coastal-inspired treasures, wine, gifts, candy, specialty art, gourmet kitchen items, and more.
Pawleys Island has the largest free public beach access lot in Georgetown County, located on the south end of the island. In addition, there are 8 other public beach access points on the island which offer visitors the use of approximately 141 combined parking spaces, including handicap parking. All public access points have trash receptacles, dog waste collection bags and signs providing beach rules and regulations.
We recommend you check out our reception venue before the reception! Atalaya Castle is the picturesque winter home of the scholar Archer Huntington and his wife, renowned sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington, who left the park and adjacent Brookgreen Gardens as their legacy. The couple was known for their generous and eccentric lifestyle (for instance - Anna was known to contain many wild animals in the house to sculpt), contributions to the field of Hispanic studies, philanthropic efforts in the local community during the Great Depression and following World War, as well as their love and devotion to each other.
