Our Story

How They Met

March 17, 2017

Back five years ago in Brighton, MA, a restaurant called Devlins served as a staple in the local community. Amanda enjoyed visiting there and Pete was a bartender there. Amanda noticed Pete during a few of her visits to Devlins, but did not know Pete's name, so simply called him the "beautiful bartender" and would notice him from a distance. That all changed on St. Patrick's Day, when Amanda walked in to Devlins with friends and saw that Pete was working over on the side bar. With a little liquid courage, Amanda went over and introduced herself and finally learned his name was Pete. The rest was history: the two exchanged information and went on their first date a few weeks later! Every year on St. Patrick's Day, Amanda and Pete both reflect on how lucky they both got on that day! This picture here is one of the first photos Amanda and Pete ever took together, at Wehr's Beach on a camping trip in June of 2017!

The Story of Spunky and Lagrange

Did you know that almost 99% of the time, Amanda and Pete do not call each other by their actual names? Within weeks of Pete getting to know Amanda back in 2017, he instantly saw how spirited and energetic she is, and began to call her Spunky. Spunky and Spunk have been Amanda's interchangeable nicknames for the past five years. With Pete, his last name is Lankarge, but most people cannot pronounce it. ZZ Top's hit single "La Grange" turned into Pete's music "stage name", which in turn, quickly turned into Amanda's nickname for Pete. Amanda may be becoming Mrs. Lankarge this year, but at heart, she's going to be "Mrs. Lagrange" :)

From Brighton, MA to Portsmouth, RI

With Pete's active involvement in the Boston music and baseball scene, Amanda quickly grew to love all of the incredible people in both communities and never missed a game or music gig. Pete loved the fact that Amanda was a school teacher, and would take the time to write letters to her students and help her set up her classroom during the summer. They have always been a huge support system for one another!

During Amanda and Pete's initial dating days, open mic nights became a fun night out, along with catching a Red Sox Game, going to concerts, singing at karaoke, and going to Devlins after baseball games with their baseball family.

As Amanda and Pete continued to progress in their relationship, they both decided that they wanted a change of pace from the city and both desired being near the water. Pete's family had always spent their summers during his childhood in Portsmouth, RI. Amanda and Pete started having weekend trips to Portsmouth and both loved the island! They decided to take the next step in their relationship and moved to RI together in 2019 and have since called the island home! Pete has joined a band in the Newport area and still remains actively involved in the Boston baseball scene. Amanda took a leap of faith out of the classroom, and is now on her second year as an Assistant Principal in an elementary school. The island is a gem that Pete and Amanda treasure living on, and that is why they have chosen to get married in Newport, RI.
