Let's Get Packing!
It will be the tail end of spring and the beginning of summer in Argentina during the wedding so there are a couple items that are essential when packing between the northern areas like Buenos Aires (BA) and down south such as El Calafate. It will likely be VERY warm/hot in the northern regions (+/-90 degrees) yet quite chilly and windy in the southern region +/- 50 degrees).
Another important thing to remember is that regardless of whether or not you like checking bags, Argentina is not like the US and most taxis or Ubers will be compact vehicles rather than SUVs ie very limited storage space. If you bring a large suitcase, it may not fit in the backseat/trunk of your transportation. We HIGHLY encourage everyone to pack light and plan to do laundry (fluff and folds are very common) if staying for longer than a week.
When in BA, you'll likely want to wear tanks, t-shirts, shorts, dresses, a sun hat, and a lightweight cover up to protect yourself from the sun. We also recommend comfortable walking shoes as the city is very large and there is a lot to see! Just like any major city, we recommend using a compact purse with zippers to deter pickpockets etc.
When in El Calafate, we recommend you pack clothing that you can easily layer for warmth but are also thin/ easy to pack. An absolute essential is a water resistant wind breaker for an outer layer and a pair of long johns to wear under your clothes (thermals and leggings work well too). The wind chill factor can be significant. We'd suggest leaving your heavy winter coats at home as they take up a lot of space... instead, swap it out for an exercise/thermal long sleeve, thin athletic/tech jacket, and your windbreaker! Don't forget a hat/beanie, gloves, and warm boots!
For those who are doing Glacier Trekking- you should plan to wear a somewhat water resistant hiking pant and boot on the glacier too!
