What are the best flight paths?

Regardless of where you are departing from in the states, you'll be officially touching down in Buenos Aires as both a starting and ending point! The only cities that fly direct to EZE are from JFK, IAH, DFW, or MIA. You can also connect from SFO, IAD, or ORD through Panama if you want to break the flight into two 7-hour legs instead of one super long flight. The flight from EZE to El Calafate is 3 hours and 20 min direct and there are several departing each day. A vast majority of places you may want to visit will only be accessible by plane.

Can I use airline miles to get to Argentina?

ABSOLUTELY! We highly recommend racking up United, Alaska, and/or American Airlines points to help with the cost to get to South America. If you would like help or tips on applying for the best credit cards, please reach out to Chris or Amelia- we are happy to help!

What is the weather like?

Buenos Aires- Expect temperatures between the mid 60s and high 70s between November and December as it is the start of summer! Patagonia- The southern portion of Argentina stays cold year round and you can expect temps in the mid 40s to low 60s. It is also insanely windy in the south so be sure to pack a high quality windbreaker!

What should I bring?

1. Might be obvious, but your passport 2. Bring a debit card (Charles Schwab) and credit card with no foreign transaction fees. 3. Pack for 95+ degree dry weather for the northern cities such as Buenas Aires and Mendoza, bring cold weather clothing (parka, boots, long johns) for the south as it is extremely windy and cold! 4. Make sure to bring an outlet converter as they do not use standard US plugs 5. If you plan to use data and do not have the option on your cellular plan, buying a SIM card is highly advisable to use maps and uber etc.

Is uber an option for transportation?

YES! We used uber a ton during our trip in 2019 however, it wasn't as widely accepted like in the US... Also, vehicles are much smaller and older than the states, minimal bags are ideal (both for domestic flights and transportation purposes)

What about currency?

Argentina's currency is in ARS. Prepare to track current exchange rates and try to bring some US cash with you... They have had mass inflation since 2020 and the published exchange rates are below what you'd receive for actual USD. Consider bringing a debit card that waves foreign transaction fees like Charles Schwab.
