The island is home to a multitude of ornate Orthodox churches and peaceful monasteries. Here are two located in Corfu Town:
The Holy Church of Saint Spyridon - home to the uncorrupted relics of Saint Spyridon. He is said to have performed many healing miracles. He is called a “walking saint” because the silk slippers which clothe the feet of his relics wear out each year and are replaced on his feast day.
Metropolitan Church of Saint Theodora and Saint Vlasios - home to the uncorrupted relics of the Holy Empress Theodora, Restorer of Orthodoxy. Also the church that Samuel and Anastasia will be married in.
Old Town Corfu is recognized as a UNESCO world Heritage site.
Old Fortress of Corfu - Built from 1545 - 1555. Inside the Venetian fortress you'll find what was once the old town or Corfu in Byzantian Times.
There are, of course, endless beaches on Corfu: some pebble and some sand. Please note that some beaches are more accessible than others. There are organized beaches with chair rentals, beach bars, and restaurants, and there are also more secluded beaches for those adventurers seeking unique landscape.
The secluded beaches are frequented by visitors in the summertime, it will just take a bit more of an effort to get there. Many are only accessible by a short hike from the closest parking area or by boat. They do not have beach side amenities, so be prepared with plenty of water, snacks, and something to lay on!
Paleokastritsa - This area on the West coast of Corfu is filled with little bays with some of the bluest / most turquoise waters of Corfu. This area is quite touristy so expect it to be busy. Beach Bars: Akron or La Grotta.
Liapades - a smaller and more authenthic version of Paleokastritsa. It has a traditional village and multiple beaches with turquoise water. The main beach is Gefyra beach. You can snorkel here, rent a boat to discover the seclued beaches, or swim up to Acapulco bar.
Acapulco is a pool bar with a view over Gefyra beach, spread out over several terraces. If you want to reach it by car, you have to go from Paleokastritsa. From Liapades it is only possible to swim to it. But that is all the fun!
Rovania Beach - secluded pebble beach near Liapades. There are numerous water taxis in Paleokastritsa which will whisk you around some of the best beaches in the bay including Rovinia. Alternatively, you can walk from Liapades or drive to the (paid, € 3) parking lot (which still requires a short steep downhill walk to get to the beach).
Klimatia and Limni - secluded pebble beaches also near Liapades. You can make a beautiful 15 minute walk through an olive grove and down a staircase to the double Limni beach. It has water on both sides! Next to it (separated by just a rock) lies the more intimate Klimatia beach.
Glyfada Beach - a large, sandy beach on the West coast with restaurants and beach bars close by with umbrellas and chairs to rent. There is a big free parking lot, as well as parking on the side of the road up the hill.
Agios Georgios - Lovely sand beach with shallow waters on the Northeast coast of Corfu. It’s a small picturesque beach resort. There’s a handful of tavernas and beach bars, but also plenty of free and unorganized space.
Kayaks and boat rental are available. Parking is a bit limited though.
Porto Timoni - stunning secluded beach in North West Corfu. In recent years, Porto Timoni became one of the most photographed beaches of Corfu. All because of the amazing view that this double beach presents from above. It is however still secluded. You can only reach it by boat from Agios Georgios, or by hiking down from the village of Afionas. Which is one of the cutest villages on Corfu. The hike should take you 30 minutes or less, and close toed shoes are recommended here for safety.
Barbati - a beautiful organized smooth pebble beach with clear waters, on the East Coast between Dassia and Kassiopi. It has some nice, beach bars and tavernas.
Avlaki and Kerasia - Moving up towards the North East - there are wonderful bays with white pebbles and clear blue water. There are only a few places with sunbeds and a few beach front tavernas to eat and drink at such as Nissaki, Agni, and Kalami.
Try Kerasia Taverna.
Kassiopi - Bataria beach - a smaller pebble beach with stunning, clear blue water. Kassiopi is a charming traditional fishing village on the Northern tip of Corfu.
The North of Corfu is postcard worthy at almost every corner.
Peroulades - Cape Drastis - one of the most famous views is Cape Drastis, an incredible rock formation surrounded by almost baby blue waters.
After your visit you can go to the 7th Heaven cafe in Peroulades to watch the cliffs of Logas beach and the heavenly blue waters (between 12 and 3 PM they are at their bluest), or the amazing sunset while enjoying a cocktail.
Sidari - Canal d’Amour - unique rock formation with tiny beaches and blue water between them. Legend has it that those couples who swim to the end together will remain in love forever. This area has become quite the resort town over the years so best to go in the morning if you can!
The beaches of Erimitis nature reserve are masterpieces of nature on the North Eastern side of Corfu. It is full of secluded beaches you can only reach by foot or by boat.
There is a coastal path between Agios Stefanos and Avlaki. You can start from Agios Stefanos (behind the Eucalyptus taverna). Then it will take you about 40 minutes of walking up and down along the beautiful path to reach the beautiful Akoli beach. White pebbles and crystal clear waters! There are no amenities.
A fantastic way to discover the secluded beaches and coves along the coastline is by boat. There are many companies who offer boat excursions of various durations.
Liapades or Pakeokatristra are both of ideal locations to rent a boat or book a boat tour.
You could take a short 45-minute boat tour of the stunning beaches and caves from € 10 from the pier at Agios Spyridon beach. Boats leave every 15 minutes in summer, no reservation required.
You could also treat yourself to a longer half day or full day boat trip in and around Corfu. Generally speaking they are great value for money. You can see a lot in a day and you don’t have to worry about where to go or how to get there. Many companies offer pick-up and drop-off service from accommodations all over Corfu.
Also, all over the islands there’s the opportunity to book tours on a private basis, in case you don’t want to go on a crowded boat.
If you love being on boats and want to book a longer trip, you can book a sailing day trip!
There are many different experiences with various routes, pick up and drop off locations, durations, stops, number of people, etc.
We won't link specific tours, as that is entirely based on preference, but here are some destinations we would recommend for a day trip:
Paxos and Anti Paxos: Take a full day cruise to the amazing Blue Caves, swim in the Maldives-like waters of Antipaxos island, and explore Gaios or Lakka, two picturesque villages on Paxos island.
Parga and Sivota’s Blue Lagoon: Take a full day trip over to the Greek mainland! Parga looks like a Greek version of an Amalfi coast village. It is very romantic and dreamy. Swim in the exotic waters of the Blue Lagoon of Sivota and check out the cave of Papanikolis.
There are over 4 million olive trees on Corfu! Learn more about how Olive Oil is made by booking an experience at the Governor's Olive Mill.
